thompson contender 204 ruger pressure

i recently delt for this rifle and i started working up some hand loads for it i started with the min load data and the pressure is off the charts i loaded it with 26g h335 and some 25.7g of imr 4895 with a 40 grain bullet with the h335 it was blowing the primers out the 4895 would just flatten them really bad the bbl is clean bullet is 5 thousandths off the lands any body got any ideas or had this trouble. its a older contender frame with a 24"bbl thanks..

I just came across your post today and I would like to offer a few suggestions. Firstly buy a box of Hornady factory loaded ammo, then measure the COAL and see how it compares to your handloads, I think that they may be a little too long. Then try shooting the factory loads in your rifle and see how that goes with regards to pressure. If all is OK then check your scale, an easy way to do this is weigh a few different bullets that you know the weight of. This will point you in the right direction and tell you if the problem lies with your gun or your loads, I would suspect the latter. Let me know how it goes. Hope this helps, Jim.
