Thompson/Center Contender Pistol Observations

timeout

Silver $$ Contributor
Just checking to see if there are any TC Contender aficionados on here. I have a relative that wants to sell his Contender with a 10" barrel in 44 mag. caliber. The gun is equipped with a Bushnell Trophy red dot 1 power optic. There is no wear on the bluing. Only mark that I can see is on the right side hand grip. I forgot to ask him the approximate round count, but I am certain it is extremely low. So basically, I am asking for a fair market value on the gun. Thanks!

I will not shoot a 44 mag. on a Conder frame. The over travel screw for thr trigger eats up my finger. It` not that I don`t like recoil, my carry gun is a 329 PD with full house loads and I have a 500 S&W custom shop, plus a 460 on the Encore frame, but the grip on the Contender are just to small for me. Ask to shoot it befor you buy it.

Look at gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com to get a feel for what it is all worth.I would think about 475.00 to 550.00.

I am not looking to buy a Contender, just to help the guy price and sell it. Thanks.

Thanks for your assistance Jon!

The problem with Contenders are, you either love them or hate them. I have one in comparable condition with a 2X leupold and a 730 waters barrel that I tried to sell and could not get a bite at $500.00. I decided to put it back in the safe, it’s a fun gun to shoot and for that money I will keep it.

My brother had one in the 7 waters some years back. He shot a large 11 point on my property with it and made a very long and lucky shot at his place on another buck. I have never owned a Contender, but at one time I had a 510 F Savage in .243. That was a blast to shoot and a pain to carry. I shot a nice buck at 300 yards with it. We can use rifles here here now (used to be shotgun and handgun only), so the hunting pistols are gone.
