Third time out this month on groundhogs.

Hit a 2000-acre section, impossible to hunt this in one summer, the fields are a mile in each direction, beans, with hedgerows and woods lining them.I was set up in alfalfa first and then transitioned, I saw 10 drew down on 6 and got six. Th winds were high, shots were 160 yards out to 250, and 17 hornet suppressed. Eighteen groundhogs in 3 outings all same area,at 160 yards the small gh's explode, head off and a diaphragm hit blew ones innards out.Next weekend back at it.

I can only wish to see those kind of numbers here in VA. I guess the coyote moving in are thinning them out. I'm using a Savage 17 Hornet as well and just starting to work on my reloads. Fine shooting and thanks for sharing.

We've tons of coyotes here in Ohio. The coyotes haven't hurt my area that much, as many are killed during our deer seasons. The two species generally don't move at the same times of day. Denning season is when coyotes are on the prowl. I keep them in check somewhat.

That's like the good ol' days in my part of WV. No groundhogs like that any more, but our deer are like that and more. Working on them hard with my handguns. Did one at 70 yds. with my Taurus Raging Bull .41 Mag, 1 at 301 yds. with my 6.5/.284 XP-100, 2 with my .325 WSM XP-100 yesterday.
Not many coyotes here, but the bears are starting to investigate the corn. Taken 7 in last 11 years on this farm with my handguns. No dogs, just sniping by the corn.
