Thinning Accru-Glass

Would like some suggestions on what to use to thin Accru-Glass. I would be using the thinned material to inject into fine cracks of a wood stock and would like the thinned material to penetrate as deep as posible.

Thanks,

I have thinned standard epoxy with acetone to penetrate and strengthen wood on boats, etc. The acetone evaporates quickly after the epoxy is applied. The acetone doesn't seem to react with the epoxy and doesn't seem to affect the final strength. I have not tried this with accru-glass.

Mix the Accru-Glass first and then thin it with MEK.

Do this in a well ventilated area as solvents like MEK are wicked.

Also, any solvent that evaporates fast is highly flammable. Be careful.

Two other thoughts - Git Rot and West Systems Epoxy. Both are thinner epoxies intended to permeate wood grain and pores and set up like concrete when finished. Both available from Marine supply outfits or Amazon. About 15-20 minute pot life so be organized!

If you're talking about Brownell's Acra-Glass, I believe they still make a thinner for it

Toluene is recommended in Brownells "Gunsmithing tips books" as a solvent for spraying

Accraglass.

They also mention using a shot of compressed air to force Accraglass into cracks, but it's

quite messy.

Just mix in a little plastic cup sitting in hot water. If you warm it up it thins out a lot...also will cure a bit faster but it will allow plenty of work time.
