Thinking of converting my .308 to a 6 Dasher

Been shooting a lot of longer ranges (out to 1000) and even though my 6BR does it ok wind can play heck on the 105gr. Bergers I have been shooting. Dont get me wrong my 6BR is a awesome rifle but, I feel one of the others I mention below might be better at 1000.
My .308 with a 28" bull Shilen is a tac driver as it hits bugholes at closer range but, out to 1000 its literally hit or miss.
I am thinking about either converting the .308 over to a 6 Dasher, 6.5x47 or even possibly a 6.5 CM.
Not really wanting to make another CM as I have one in stock form with a 24" varmit but, I know if did go 28" bull with a Shilen or Criterion it would be a whole better rifle on this setup.
Opinions would be greatly appreciated. :)

the bolt is not even close...he said convert...br/dasher dame bolt face.
how do you get case volume, if you fill it full of 180 bullet ?
i would say competitive 180's in 284 are done on long actions.

lot of guys using 284’s on a short action

Probably should stay retired. .284 is the same bolt face as .308. I have a 280 Ai on a short action no problem in a single shot. I think I'm competitive. But I am starting to like my 260AI better.

Any of the calibers you're after will do a fine job at 1000.
Kinda depends on what you want. Dasher is more expensive to tool up for, requires fireforming, and will cause you to panic if you lose a few pieces of brass.
Creedmoor is freaking easy by comparison. And you already have one, for crying out loud.
If your 1000yd targets are "literally hit or miss", one is led to wonder about how much time you're spending learning at the wind.
Wind is going to play heck on any caliber at 1000 yards. Assuming you're not competing, my advice is this:
If it were me, I'd spend lots of money on powder/bullets/primers for the 6BR & .308 & existing 6.5Creed. Work up loads with a ladder test to get ones that shoot well at range. Then pay lots of attention to the wind. Guarantee this will get you more hits than a new Dasher or x47 barrel.

I'm thinking of converting my .308 over to the Dasher as well. My main motivation is pain, I've damaged my shooting shoulder too many times over the years and this last time with all the crunching and snapping noises has been a subtle reminder of the previous injuries. When I finally decide to make the switch, there will be a goodly amount of .308 components and accessories for sale.

Well, I also might add another choice is 6BRX which might even be a better choice over the Dasher due to the fact the BR dies I have will work for it if I go 6mm.
But, with all that said Im leaning more and more to 6.5x47 as the replacement simply due to the choice in higher BC bullets.

I just dont find myself shooting my .308 anymore and wanted to put the components that are there to good use.

For years and years I shot .308 in service rifle, highpower silhouettes, and beginning in 2010 F-TR. Great and versatile cartridge with a number of powders that work well and great brass from Lapua and bullets from Berger. But for hitting a target at long distances or for achieving high scores in F class it increases the degree of difficulty compared to other, more efficient, options such as the Dasher. Compared to my experience with the .308, using the Dasher at 600 yards seems just like cheating. It is labor intensive, but it works for me. I also shoot a .284 Winchester with the 180 brain Berger hybrid at 1000 yards. Very impressive performance. All 3 calibers/cartridges are shot from the same action/bolt - short action F-class Panda. I also have a 6.5X47 that may be the best all around choice, but maybe not the best choice for each yardage. But, as was mentioned above wind/condition reading is the most important factor in hitting targets at long range and there are no shortcuts or substitutes for trigger time for that skill.

Explain to me how a .308 and a 284 don't have the same bolt face. This i gotta hear!!

I'm from the keep it simple crowd. 6xc, buy brass (no fireforming), light recoil, Same bolt face and short action you already have, and the 115 rebated boat tail bullets from Tubb (BC .620 I believe) can be driven at 3000FPS. What's not to like?

I think what your trying to tell us is your 308 doesn’t perform well at 1K. Your 6BR does if the wind isn’t to bad. Your shoulder hurts from previous injuries so recoil is a factor. Your looking for a a very accurate caliber/cartridge with light recoil using a 308 bolt face. Aren’t we all?
The 7MM’s rule the 1K line now but they kick. The 6MM’s (Dasher, BRX, 6XC, 6CM etc) are better in the wind due to velocity. So what’s left? I suggest one of the 6.5’s. The 6.5CM or the 260 Rem. High BC bullets, less recoil than the 308 lots of proven loads, easy to tune.
