Thinking of a Leupold 3-15x44 5hd firedot

It would replace a Swarovski Z3 4-12x50. Is it worth it? I'm really stuck on this... really like the idea of the firedot and quick dial. Firedot for the older eyes I now have.

I have never looked thru a Swarovski, so no help as to whether it is worth it or not.

Last year that very model of Leupold was acquired for my hunting rig, love it! The firedot really aids me well for those lower/low light shooting opportunities.

Agree with above comments…..I have several 3-15x44s without the firedot and love them butt when I bought the same scope with the firedot this past year, it was a game changer for these old eyes in low light! Now I wish I had them on the others!

I also love the VX6 HD 3x18x50 firedot. Im 78 and its a game changer in lowlight conditions. I went the 50mm ob for the better exit pupil at higher power. With the 44mm on 15X exit pupil is 2.93. With the 50mm at 15x its 3.3. That not sound like much but it is really noticeable. .4 mm bigger. Even at 18x its still 2.8 mm. You wont be sorry. IMHO Rob

I used Leupold VX6 2-12x scopes on my elk rifles with the illuminated dot and long range duplex (dots on the vertical for holdovers) for several years. I never had a problem with tracking, but many did. I replaced them 3 years ago with Vortex Razor LHT 3-15x scopes with the illuminated mil reticle (just the center dot lights up). I think they're about perfect for my hunting uses and suggest you check them out, especially if you plan to dial at all.

I have several on hunting rigs - love them. The firedot is great in low light, the CDS dials are fantastic. Light weight, and very clear. When I'm at the shooting range I miss having more power, but great for the distance I hunt.

I've got a couple of the exact VX5. The only change I would consider is a 2-10 for a little smaller, lighter scope. I really don't need higher power for deer and elk.
