Thinking about building a 20 VARTARG - Action Choices

I’m sitting on a Krieger .204” HV barrel that I was originally going to use to build a 20 Practical rig in a chassis to mimic my .308 PRS style rig. The end goal was to shoot targets prone off of a bipod and bag “just because”. At the time that I bought it I was doing a lot of steel shooting out to 1000 yards, and I wanted something fun to plink with. Fast forward a couple of years and I got married for a second time and the kid count is now at 4, so time to reload and shoot isn’t there the way that it used to be, and I’m trying to get the kids into shooting, so it’s been a lot of .22lr. I bought a Vudoo V-22 last year and have been doing most of my plinking with that. So, I kind of have the shorter range plinking with a PRS style rig covered.

Having said all that, I still have an itch for something in .20 caliber. For whatever reason, the VARTARG just interests me. It’s just a cool little cartridge that delivers impressive performance without much powder, and from what I’ve read, it’s a very accurate round. I like accuracy!

I have an old Kelbly Club BR stock that’s inletted for a Remington 700 SA. I was thinking that it would be fun to build a BR rig in 20 VARTARG to shoot for groups or score at 100 yards. It would also be a rig that would be good for the kids to experience longer distant targets with. My only dilemma is that I don’t know who makes a single shot action that fits the Remington 700 footprint. I’d like to get something like a BAT or Borden action for this build, but will consider others. I’m thinking right bolt, left port, right eject. Does such an action exist?

Both BAT & Borden make actions which meet your desire. :)RG

Thanks for the responses guys. I’ll give Borden a call when I have the cash to make the purchase. It’s going to be a couple of months.

Borden BR rblpre 20 vartarg in a cerus stock. Bordens hard to beat. Left port bottom eject would be my only change.

Looks like we're on the same page! Haha

Jim is a great guy to work with and the Rimrock BR is a really slick action!

Just as a little teaser from my Vartarg log that I just updated, here is the 55 Berger running 3100fps at 300 yards:

And here is my 22BR shooting 85.5 Bergers at 3200fps in the same terribly windy conditions at 300 yards (2 - 5shot groups):

Strangely, the little 20 Vartarg punches WAY above its weight, shooting smaller than cartridges with vastly superior ballistics.
