"After a brief press conference with Vice-President Biden at the White House on Wednesday, President Obama bucked the conventional wisdom and signed into law several executive actions intended to reduce gun violence in the United States. As we've noted, Obama can't avoid major legislative battles with these measures, but some are sure to have immediate impact. Gun Violence Reduction Executive Actions

Today (3/16/2013), the President is announcing that he and the Administration will:

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

While I have no issue with background checks or more laws to track guns or sales, but the problem is the government will always take more and more. Eventually our rights with guns will end. One small victory for them at a time ends up a giant loss for us over time.

Also I do think something need to change as I'm sure a lot of other believe so to to help reduce gun violence. Problem still lies that if someone wants to commit a unlawful act they will find a way to do it with or without a gun.

They achieve a victory when you use their lingo. "Gun violence". "Assault weapons". Murder is murder. There's a law against murder. That should be where the law ends. It's not about guns, it's about control -- the endless quest for more and more control of the people by the government. Which is exactly why the 2nd Amendment was added to the Constitution. The people are supposed to be in charge, and have a duty to remove a government that doesn't remember that.

There's a typically liberal ad campaign that plays on radio out here on the left coast. Probably nation-wide, but I don't know. It's funded by YOUR money, by taxpayer dollars. It (paraphrasing) says "When you commit a gun crime, your family serves a sentence too. Gun crimes hit home. Don't commit gun crimes."

As if your family is somehow less affected if you're in jail for, oh, a knife crime, or a DUI, or a rape or kidnapping or embezzlement?

That's the insidious nature of the left. Propaganda. When you use their dialogue in the argument, you lose. Their argument is insanity, as is their agenda. Because it's proven to fail. For centuries. And some of you vote for more of it. :

The next 2-3 elections there needs to be a heavy emphasis on getting rid of people people like her.

i predict she will try and attach that AWB to any "must-pass" funding bills especially one that doesn't require a recorded vote.

Any erosion of our rights even by just one letter will become one word then one phrase will become one sentences, it's never ending. They're far from stupid and those that think banning high capacity magazines or AR rifles is all they really want are naive. They were already talking about limiting shotgun rounds to three. It's over if they ever get their foot in the door.

It will never be over until they get our firearms. Not just our semi-automatics but all of them. Look at what is happening in australia and great britton not that there is anything great about it anymore. Every year they are taking more and more and making it harder and harder to get a fire arm. Just give it time and you will hear them wanting your sniper rifle. You know your bench rifle.

My answer to why do I need that is why does anyone need a new car? Number two protects the rest. I then tell them they need to read a real history book about the founding of our country. Obammaman should also read it.

The AWB will probably be att. as an amendment to socially acceptable bill, such as funding for children or veterans or the like, something that would be unconciable for a legisture to vote against. A little known fact by many, that after the civil war ex slaves or African Americans were PROHIBITED by law from owning firearms until sometime around the late 1870's in most states. If any segment of society that should be a proponet of the 2nd amendment it should be the African American segment of society. Even tho slaves were freed and recognized as citizens they still were denied the rights of many rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Do not believe that the Constitution is a right by God, it is a right granted or denied by the Government and ruling majority of the Legislature. Sad as it may be, and burst to our bubble of Democracy, it does exist. History is sprinkled with such violations of the Constitution and existed for many years without admonishment by the SCOTUS. If a Left majority is in control of the Supreme Court Heller will be overturned and we will be in for the rudest awakening of our lives.
