Them Were The Days - Old Ammo

In going through my late father's shooting gear, I found this old box of 30-06 ammo. The list price was $3.99, but Buttrey's supermarket (in Lewiston, Idaho) priced it at $3.29. This was probably purchased in the mid to late 1960s.

These headstamps indicate remanufactured government brass.

I've found several examples of these (and the red / black boxes w/ Frontier headstamps) selling in recent years for $25 per full unfired box (asking price).

That's the first box/brand of ammo I bought (with parent present) for the 721 my uncle gave me in 1968...I think they were 150gr SP's Head stamp said Frontier

CJ6 make sure you hang on to that 721, I have 5 of them. Best action Remington ever made.
Brains356 Your father was probably making that much an hour! In the early 60's that was about the hourly wage.

Here' some ammo that came out of my Grandfather's closet. I have no idea how old it is, but I'm 59.

I'll go one better. Old shooting buddy died. I'am going thru and cleaning out his shooting gear. Come upon a price hang tag that came off of one of his Buck Mark pistols. $9.95!!

Somewhere I have a box of .338 Win Mag that was purchased by my grandfather in the mid 1950's along with a Win model 70 to take on a moose hunting trip up in the Yukon. My father, in his late teens at the time, bore sighted it and fired two rounds to confirm 100yd zero and stopped because of a headache:D. My grandfather took a moose on his trip, one shot DRT and mothballed the rifle until my father put it in to service on an elk trip a few years back when his .300 Wthby mag split the stock at the tang 3 days prior to the trip. I still have the original box of ammo from the '50's with three rounds fired. I told my father the only thing I want when you pass is that rifle and box of cartridges...my siblings can take everything else (there is a bit of a story behind that rifle and the elk trip but that is for another day)
