Killing Time

I apologize in advance if I get a little long winded with this. A little over a year ago, I joined this forum in search of information. I was in search of information on the Ruger American Gen II in 22 ARC. I was unable to find one due to limited stock supply, so I joined here for one, maybe some help finding one, and two, gain some knowledge in precision. In the posts I made, Bradley Walker, The Urbanrifleman, sent me a dm and asked me to give him a call and that’s just what I did

I had these grand ideas I was going to buy this 22 ARC and make some modifications with some aftermarket parts and just create a pin driving rifle. But when I talked to Bradley, he suggested if I was willing to spend the money I had planned on customizing a factory rifle, why not look into a complete custom build. This really interested me, as I had never envisioned a fully custom rifle. I have only known “hunting” style rifles my entire life and a custom rifle was out of my realm of any experience.

After talking with Bradley and him explaining the options I had and his recommendations, which were greatly appreciated, I had decided on the setup I was going with. I bought 26” heavy varmint profile threaded barrel chambered in 22 Creedmoor, and a Kauger CRS action. I coupled that with a Trigger Tech primary trigger. When I received all of my parts, Bradley was very helpful in assembling the barrel to action, how set clearances, everything. I sat the barreled action into a KRG Bravo chassis, mounted my scope and I was ready to shoot. And this is where my eyes were opened like I hadn’t imagined. This was the most accurate and down right fun to shoot rifle I’d ever owned. And boy what a can of worms I had opened!

Not long after my finishing this build, and continuing to talk with Bradley, I ordered a barrel chambered in 6BR. Followed the same with my receiver and went with a TT diamond this time around. I sat this barreled action in an MPA BA comp chassis and after firing this rifle, I was blown away again by the accuracy and just pure joy to shoot. I have since followed that up with a 6XC barrel. Bradley has opened my eyes to a world of precision shooting that I never knew and I will be forever grateful. He is has always been extremely helpful and had told me many times, just give me a call if you need anything. People like him are few and far between in my eyes. And to this forum, I have learned soooo much from the members here and I’m so glad to be a member and will always contribute anyway I can. This experience has opened a new love and appreciation of shooting sports and precision shooting. I felt Bradley needed a positive call out and he has a customer for life with me.

Thanks!

We've had fun haven't we?

I started with 224 Valkyrie.

This forum got me into 6 Dasher. My last range trip had me punching 3" steel ay 600 yd no problems.

Urbanrifleman ( and many others) have been my benefactors.

One of the things that Chris did was stick to calibers that are proven.

If a guy just wants to shoot small there are fornulas that work. Boring I know. But incredible shooting.

I dont know if mine are "proven" calibers , but they have worked out well for me.

I ended up ditching 338 norma mag to "shoot small" and have no regrets... as I say in no small part to the advice from this forum.

It took me a couple years of shooting cast bullets to figure out how important cartridge efficiency was for accuracy. As Brad says, there are cartridges that are proven to be 'easy' to tune. Figure out the caliber you want and velocity. Then pick the cartridge that does the best for those.

And, yeah, they may be boring, but, they are still fun :)
