The "Three Varminteers" in PA, 27APR

40X Guy had the opportunity to validate his rifle that was recently discussed at http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/old-warhorse-81-years-young.3900294 . I'd call it a success thus far as those 55gr. Noslers put the hogs "DRT" at that velocity!

We started and ended the evening on an old-order Amish farm that I've had exclusive rights to for about ten years. Last Saturday, 6-7 were taken out, and as years past have proven there are a pile of them left.

40X Guy and his son met me in field around 5PM and by 6:40 we had six hit between the three of us (two each rotating firers). "Jr" had the long shot of the night at ~325+. The long farms are being saved for after first cut of hay :).

As always, it was another great evening spent with great company!

Good job guys.

A lot of damage to the second chuck from the left, what was it hit with?

Alan

That one was first kill with new Swift rifle at 212 yards. Still had grass in his mouth. We were looking to far side of field 325 yards and further then this one popped up close.

Still can't get over the blaspheme of a Model 70 in the hands of a guy named 40X. Heartbroken...;)

However, that opened up chuck reminds me of some great 220 Swift cranial vaulting here a few years ago. Westerners get to see helicopters. Now and then us easterners get similar reslts on much heavier sturdier prey.

It sure looks nice down there where it is warm. My mentor gets all upset at me if I tell him I shot chucks before first cut. He says it kils the pups. Hard to explain to him that here there are fields that get cut "onect" as in once everything else gets done and we get to it, this year or in the next five...so I take every early opportunity to shoot those goldenrod/hay fields early.

I wanted to hold off a bit, but the farmer asked if I'd be around soon or if he needed to find someone else to shoot them off. He was set on cleaning some up as early as possible.
