The things that stop by when you're not at home.......

This is from the trail camera I keep watching my hunting cabin. Pretty nice buck for up in the mountains...notice the drop tine. Tried all year to slip an arrow between that bears ribs, but just couldn't get a good shot. Never did see the deer until now, I knew he had to be decent because he raked on some 10" trees......I have seen that stupid raccoon chase even the bears away from corn.Bear II.JPG Buck.JPG Drop tine.JPG

Here is some more...view of the cabinCabin picture.jpgThe damn raccoons even run the turkeys off. For a size comparison those turkey feeder tubes are 10" in diameter. coon and turkey.JPG Not when this photo was taken, but I could have easily killed the deer in the back with the high over head rack...the big bear was about to come out so I waited. Should have shot the deer...the bear stayed in the brush. Nice deer.JPGEdit: Obviously, the camera time stamp is not correct...this was taken sometime in the late summer.

The things that stop by when you're not at home?? What about when you ARE at home? (goods pictures by the way. Hunting cabin? Looks pretty livable to me.;))
Found strange (different) droppings around the yard. House is in the middle of two acres and there is an active game trail that runs thru my and the neighbors property. Always something passing thru.
Anyhow, the wife got on the WWW and looked to see what the poop came from. Found it. Elk! All around us but that's the first time they've come on the property, that I know of.
LOTS of Deer, Does and young butt sniffers. Coons, Skunks, a family of Fox and up to 50 Turkeys at one time.
Headed out around midnight with my Maglite to see what I could see. Sure enough, three or four BIG Elk Cows doing the number on the lower branches of my Apple trees.
Three of four big herds around the Valley. Always fun to watch. You can hear them whistling all around us. During breeding season, big fights start between the bulls. THAT'S where the action is.

Yes sir, the cabin is off grid but has everything I need except air conditioning. Funny you mention elk, two seasons ago I was in my tree stand and just before dark I heard what I first thought was somebodies cow or calf back in the woods making a squealing noise. Then it did it again and I thought it sounded like a bull elk whistling. Next morning after the hunt I went to a local gun shop to look around and said to the guy, "you are gonna think I am some kind of nut, but I thought I heard a bull elk whistling yesterday...did the safari drive thru zoo have one get out??" He told me that the game commission turned 100 of them loose the previous spring just south of us. I have not seen or heard another one since.
Locals tell of mountain lions being around and seen now and then, but I have only called in one bobcat. He was so squirrely I don't know if I could have hit him with a mini-gun!!
Bcat at feeder.JPG Looks like pretty good camo to me...Bcat turned away.JPG

Give the raccoons a project that keeps them busy.
Peanut butter on a post.
Very entertaining.
