thought I'd would put up a few pics/story of my weatherby vanguard that's had a bit of love over the years
ok it started out as a weatherby vanguard 243 about 5-6 years ago as my 1st CF for farm use. it just had the synthetic stock with a nikon stirling bucket of shit scope , and so started my transformation. got a Leupold vx-3 6.5-20x40 AO to replace it,
I Brought a boyds thumb hole stock which looked good but needed a heap of work to get it to fit correctly, then i fitted a 10mag conversion to it... both lasted not long before i replaced them because they were crap...

I then started to get into target shooting as i didnt have time to get back to the farm to shoot much so i brought a Bell and carlson tac/varmint stock and got my stock barrel replaced with a TSE chrom moly HV 27" 1;8 twist barrel in 243 again. had a few dramas with the barrel from shop that fitted it but Tony from TSE fixed it after i rang him up (the only problem with it now is its a tight barrel so needs cleaning less than 100 rounds before it starts to give high pressure and its a prick to clean, takes 3-4 hours)
I then replaced the VX-3 with a Nightforce NXS 12-42x56 with 1/8 turrets as I needed to see bullet holes at 500m and did a few F class open days when a mate dragged me down and that was also good fun
I then replace the trigger with a rifle basix one and set it to 1.5lb

So i got sick of the Bell and Carlson as it was a good hunting stock but not good at target so i brought a XLR industries chassis to fit my bench rest duties with the odd hunting time,

brought a Bald eagle slingshot front rest for benchrest and a protektor bag to replace my cheap stuff

After about a year and about 1200 shots the 243 was worn out for target duties (was doing just over 2 inch groups at 500m with 105gr berger hunting VLD with 40.3gr of 2213sc) but still good enough for hunting and i wanted something more accurate and that didn't burn out barrels so i brought a Krieger 30inch HV #17 1;8 twist stainless steel barrel
Dave Kerr here in Western Australia made into 6BR for me .105 free bore and .272 no turn neck (i will swap barrels between 243 and 6BR for hunting and target) to fit my weatherby vanguard
I did give my XLR a cheap paint job the other week as i got sick of black and will do a better one later as I like the look of it

i've only just started load testing the 6BR and am using Lapua brass, CCI BR4 primers and Reloader 15, berger hunting 105gr VLD with .010 jam ..the weather has been crap for testing (windy and raining) but I got a load that was good for a 500m fly shoot the other day after running barrel , ended up using 29.5gr of reloader 15 (still need to fine tune my load)
it was a windy day coming from behind and switching side on, but I won the shoot with a score of 221.3. second place got 195.2 and he also had a 6BR and he is the bloke who normally wins so I was happy
also got the best round score of the day with 54.1 and best group score of 9 (under a 2inch group)
when I got home it measured 1.949inches

so yes I'm happy as with my 6BR and cant wait to fine tune the load a bit better and see if I can improve my groups
I have just ordered a new rifle basix trigger, WTHBY-V which I can set below 1.5lb and should be here in a few weeks and now also looking at the nightforce competition 2014 model 15-55x52 to replace my NXS
cheers
