I have been sucking as much information as I possibly can get from you guys, as I get ready to build a Short Barreled 6br Norma Br Varmint rifle.
Thanks for a truly information rich site.
So now I will share a little information on the only 6mm Bonded bullet that I know of. The 6mm Scirocco II by Swift. I currently shoot this bullet for deer and elk and as you will see below it performs with outstanding results.
Since most of you are shooters I hope to avoid the "too small for elk" flames.
The picture is a composite of several photos taken to demonstrate the bullets performance.
The bullet left the muzzle at 3150 Fps, and 90 grains.
It arrived at the elk 221 yards later at 2681 Fps, and 1436 ft lbs of energy. The recovered bullet weighed 75 grains and expanded to 5/8 of an inch
My wife made this shot and obviously hit high. The bullet entered the left shoulder, passed through the shoulder blade, the hole with the nickel) then passed through the center of a a vertebrae, the bone not the joint) and lodged on the far side of the back strap next to the skin.
The ability of this bullet to pass through that much bone and still weigh 75 grains is amazing to me. and at 221 yards.
I am fortunate in that I live in northwest Oregon, on 20 acres of timber land. We have elk pass through about once a month, most of the elk we have taken are 100 yards or less, but about 5 or 6 have been at 200 yards, all with 6mm bullets, never, knock on wood) lost an animal. Unlike my archery experiences.
If you hunt with a 6mm, I hope you can use this info.
