The 6.5 Grendel

The 6.5 Grendel has an after-market M-16 match grade bolt carrier rather than the AR-15. What is the difference? Benefits? Drawbacks?

As far as I know, it is just the bolt that is different. It may also depend on who built the upper. I think M-16 carriers have some extra area milled out for the different disconnecter (it could be the other way around though). I also think a person shouldn't use M-16 parts on civilian rifles. They will function, but if someone (ie: law enforcement) checks it out you could get in trouble and it just isn't worth the hassle.

If you read this link, it kind of says it both ways to me and could therefore be interpreted however a judge may want to intrepret it. It is on pg 141 and 142. This is not the same regulations and rules that I read a few years ago and they may have older or newer versions of this. I just never want to risk it, and want to inform others to possibly save future headaches. I am not trying to start any fights here, just putting out some information.

Not steeping there,
This is info for my library, nothing else. I like to know everything about construction.
If they make em I like to know everything down to the last washer and screw left on the planet lol.
Thanks for the link, noted and logged.

Thanks for the link. You're correct about the influence a judge can have in a given situation.

The relevant portion of that PDF that reads "...M16, hammers, triggers, disconnectors, selectors and bolt carriers must not be used in assembly of AR-15 type semiautomatic rifles...." is where the risk is defined, if you knowingly happen to have an M-16 bolt carrier in your AR when & if you get questioned about it. By itself this component isn't going to convert an otherwise legal semi-auto to illegal functionality but it could be problematic under a worst case scenario.

I haven't - yet - found anything that defines how an AR-15 Model SP1 bolt carrier differs from the M-16 equivalent.

I have several AR uppers from various sources, all the bolt carriers are different in subtle ways. Just for my own peace of mind I'd like to be assured that none of my uppers might be questionable in their current configuration.
