the .17HMR

What is your thaughts on the .17HMR. Who makes the best bolt for it and what would you recomend as a scope. I am planing on spending about $800-$1000 on the whole rig. So probally no cusom stuff. Thanks.

The .17 HMR is a great round. Personally I would go with a bolt action. You can start with a CZ 452 and later upgrade to a better stock. Since your effective reach will be out to 200 yards or so, if this is for varminting and plinking, I think a Nikon or Weaver Grand Slam 4-15x scope would be a good choice.

Volquartsen also makes some real nice 17HMR semi-autos, but they can get pricey.

Tyler,
A factory heavy barrel CZ will shoot very well. Buy you a factory heavy and have Richard at Richard's Custom Rifles stock it with one of his stocks, have him change the hammer and work the trigger and you will have a tack driver. Or have him true it and rebarrel with a custom barrel for more money. Slap a good 4.5X14 scope on it and you will have a very nice 200 yard varmint/target rifle.

Some of his rifles.

I believe that's the Richard's Model 7. Beavertail fore-arm with rollover comb.

Here's one in fancy curly maple, right side:

what about savage? are there's good. if i buy a synthetic stock w/ bull bbl and the acutrigger then i would have enough money for one of those scopes and a haris bipod, along w/ maby a bushnell rangefinder, maybe). just an idea. comments please

edit: i would have to say thow those guns look mighty atractive. how much did you guys pay for those rigs?

Tyler,
For $800-$1000 buy a Volquartsen and put a Weaver Grand Slam on top. I shoot PD's with an Anschutz 1717D, and it is a hindrance to come off the dog to chamber another round.
The VQ's have high cap mags also and shoot lights out.

Damn does that Turkish Walnut ever "Take the Cake" for a woweee stock...That is the nicest I've ever seen
