I understand many people have world class rifles but I knew I couldn’t afford to order what I wanted. Started shooting midrange f-class with a budget 700 and wanted a little better rifle. I Worked pretty hard gathering parts for this trying to do it myself. No way I could buy what I wanted and I like to learn so I decided to see if I could build a rifle from classified or “for-sale” ads. Bought the Dima stock from a GT accuracy ad with a rad system. I bought a Remington 40xbr from classifieds and sold it all but the action to fund the project a little. Found a used Jewel trigger a couple of weeks later on there too. I did buy new barrels and a reamer from Mr. Greg though. I found a savage rifle for sale locally that had the NF competition scope on it. Wound up selling the rifle to a friend and keeping the scope for pennies on the dollar of a new one. Used the rings that was on it and have no idea what they are.

The stock was a flat top so I had to do the inlet work and I bedded it myself. Had to shape the Rad system to the stock and recoil pad. Got a friend who does a little gunsmith work to chamber it. JGS no turn 7 prcw is the caliber. 8.5 twist 32” Brux barrel. Dima low center of gravity stock with a rad system, jewell trigger and NF competition. I am pretty excited to see my efforts go boom when my 180 hybrids get here tomorrow. This is pretty much the rifle of my dreams and there is no way I could afford it at once. Thanks Accurate Shooter classifieds.

A man after my own heart. I've done the exact same thing several times. Current gun I went for a little bit more, but still bought a used action that I polished myself, already owned my reamer and had a blank on the shelf, was graciously sponsored for a stock and have a good smith I call a close friend, chamber it. Bought a used sightron off Facebook, and a new Sidhe trigger.

Lots of good stuff out there, great to get it for a bargain!

I’ve assembled several rifles with parts bought here on the forum. One of them even started with a good deal on stock that I really liked?

That’s what started it for me. Seen a post for the stock just a week or so after I tried one at a local match. I had to have it.

I call this sort of thing my "rifle payment plan". If my wife only knew how much money I have tied up in parts out in the shop!
Lots of fun hunting out good deals, and then cobbling it together.
My girlfriend asked me how much money we currently have tied up components. So asked her if she wanted to help me do an inventory.
We started with powder and after we finished the powder inventory and determined we had $8300 in purchased powder on the shelf (I always tape the invoice or receipt to the back of powder jugs so I know what I paid and when I bought it), she said “holy shit, I had no idea…..can we stop now?”
I said, “sure, but just for shits and giggles I’m going to add up what it would cost today to order all of the powder we have on the shelf”
After doing so, the purchase price of just the powder on the shelf was $11,150

I am about 1/3rd complete rifles here, and 2/3rds installment plan like you have. Get the stock first, that way you can sit here, shoulder it, and fantasize the build for the next 3-6 months as the parts pile grows.
