Texas school shooting

A child that grows up without being taught to respect their parents and other adults will not learn to respect God, the laws of a civil society, themselves, or anyone else. They will believe they are the master of the universe. Violent video games, fantasy games, their ability to develop some delusional on-line persona on social media, and seeing all the attention that massacre perpetrators get may all have a role, but to me it all starts when someone is 2 - 3 years old and their parents try to negotiate with them instead of setting firm boundaries.

I agree. Lock up the schools, they need to be like the TSA line at the airport. I suggest a bulletproof glass vestibule with a door in and a door out, cameras and metal detectors and police permanently stationed in the schools............

So you believe the TSA is a good example of "how it should be"........

I agree with your Pogo line.

No, the TSA is not a good example of how it should be, what I meant was there needs to be a procedure to check every person that enters a school to insure they do not have deadly weapons. I probably should have said that rather than the TSA line

Some observations, for closure to this thread:

1. Why are virtually all school shooters young MALES? I don't have the answer... but this must be explored.

2. As with many other shooters, here the young man had spent countless hours, over many years, playing violent "first person shooter" video games. I believe this can lead to serious personality changes and blurring of lines between fantasy and reality.

3. Firearms belonged to father -- we need to know how his son Dimitrios Pagourtzis, got access. If the parent was negligent -- this is an issue all gun-owning parents should think about.

4. No info yet, but I strongly supect Dimitrios was on anti-depressant drugs. This has been true in almost all cases of teen shooters. The connection is real and must be studied. The media have NOT done their homework on this issue.

5. No question media coverage is partly stimulating these kind of crimes. Dimitrios's journal showed he was very aware of Parkland, and he "wanted his [own] story to be told". Somehow these kids are pursuing validation/self-esteem through notoriety. But they don't recognize that evil acts are just that -- evil.
