Terry Badlands in MT????

Hey guys,

I'm heading to MT in November to do some mule deer hunting.

We plan on hunting around Terry and the Terry Badlands.

I see on my GPS and a map that there is a PILE of public land down there to hunt.

Big question is, is it accessable???

I just got back from WY and one of the units we hunted there for goats was awful, and we're a little gun shy about public land and maps now!

Any inof would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The hard to get areas are where the big bruisers are. Just closer to the Dakota line is a town called Weboux MT. On one night (I think Tues night) the Shamrock bar will have the best prime rib you ever have!
Good luck. Should be a fun trip either way.

Did you get a book on the "block management" ranches? If not, contact the FWP in Miles City and have them send you one. You can also ask about the condition of the game population in the area you plan to hunt. Blue Tongue went through Eastern Montana and wiped out the population of deer and antelope. Antelope tags in area 700 (almost all of Eastern Montana) went from 13,000 down to 3,000. There are still animals but much harder to hunt.
Good luck to you. Do you already have a room reserved at Terry? If not, you will need good fortune to smile on you again :)

Thanks guys! I have an enclosed trailer we camp in so we have a place to stay

Appreciate the info.

We were looking at going up th scenic view road.......yea nay??

Terry badlands are pretty accessible by various 2 track roads. However, that is not a good thing because that means everyone else around there will be hunting it as well. But if you study your map hard and are willing to do some hiking, there are some areas that should get you away from people. Best time to hunt mule deer is middle to end of November during the rut, unless its really cold, then the first part of November can be really good too.
