For directions to the match please go to: orsa.nxs.net

I do understand the dates are a bit speratic and again we had only selected dates to choose from. Next Season we hope to have a more uniform schedule to go with. I invite anyone who wishes to shoot come on out and support this new format in Oak Ridge. We are planning to have the benches built and everything in place by Memorial weekend.

I would also like for those that intend to shoot with us please forward me your e-mail address so I can put you on the mailing list.

James,
That is great news.
Where are they going to get the benches and how are they going to move them off the line when we shoot XTC?

I'm in for the first match.

Chuck

We are currently building portable benches and will move them in place for the match and remove them and store them in a shed there until the next match.

Well, we just got one step closer in holding our first IBS 600 yd matches. This past Saturday myself Dave Tooley, Greg Culpepper, Greg Seigmond and a couple other gentlemn, can't remember names sorry) got together and we built 15 benches 13 R/H and 2 ambedextrious <<<<< spelling This are solid and well built. A big thanks to Culpepper and Tooley for coming over and also for building the brackets and making the legs for the benches and another big Thanks for Culpepper for finding free plywood to build the tops with. We glued and screwed these tops together and they are right at 2" thick. We assembled one and it is definetly stable and should do well. I also visited the range and man oh man it's got natural wind breaks and sure was calm. There will definetly some small groups shot there and I would say records may fall as well. It's going to be a friendly range.

Ahhh,, is this Oak Ridge TN you're talking about? Calm, wind breaks, etc. Ha ha ha ha ha ha,,,, we'll see how that turns out! Don't let ORSA fool you,, it's a cast iron bitch of a range.

I applaud the work you are putting in on this.

Calm, not very often) at ORSA is good. But a wind from any direction makes the flags go crazy and look like a mid-April U.S. weather map. There will be some new cuss words invented.

Come on guys ! At 600 it aint bad. At 1000, shooting over the Grand Canyon, is a different story. The pic doesnt do it justice.

The day I was up there it was really quiet and calm Greg Seigmond says it's really calm in Aug and Sept I guess we'll see.
I hope to see you guys come out and give it a try. You may find that you like this format of shooting.

James,
I have not ever shot an IBS shoot. What is the COF and are the targets marked with a spotter after each shot?

James,

Greg would know, as he shoots there every Monday night. The afternoons can be calm, but our matches are generally at 9 to 3pm, so the wind is up and running, fishtailing and letting off. It was so calm the last two State championsipns,Sep matches) that guys with 6.5x284's were making 3 minute wind correction shot to shot, with 7 minutes of wind on the gun to start.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from shooting. Quite the contrary. But I know the frustration and bewilderment that you guys are about to face at the 1000y line.

Just for a sample,, The end of last month the flags were down to 1/4 up with very little change. The difference between down and lilting was worth a full two minutes wind with a 6.5x284 shooting 142's at 2950fps. Also, at 1000, the bullet is about 40' over top of all the flags :p Let off's are the biggest problem there. There is othing like going from the center of the target to the 8 ring and back to center with no change in the flags of the sights. You'll find odd elevation issues as well. I can't explain those, except to say the terrain has got to have something to do with it.

Those that can and do well at ORSA are excellent shooters. I know you guys will have a great time.

Chuck,

We have a 6 min sight in period in which you will shoot at a target to the left of your target once this time is called there is about a 10-15 sec delay and then you go to your record target and shoot 5 shots into it typically as fast as you can before conditions change. Those sight in targets wil be marked via a disc just like you guys use for high power and such. Once you go to record the target stays up until you're finished shooting your string of 5 shots. You repeat this 4 times for an aggregate in group and score Weight limit for LG is 17 lbs and none for HG, both classes uses the same format after the first relay sighter time goes to 2 mins for the following 3 relays.
We will sit down and shoot 2 relays at one sitting and then swap out for pit duty and let those in the pits come shoot there 2 targets and swap out again for your nect 2 targets.
On Avg 40 rnds is needed for sighters and record shots you can get by with 30 if you know your 600 yd zero.
If you need more info please ask.

I may just have to bring my spotting scope and watch this. I have shot there in the past. The wind is the devious one there. You can shoot your sighters, but I bet the wind won't be the same when you shoot your string, be ready to put or take wind off to stay in the middle.
