Temperature Extremes

How many shoot in high temp changes?

Although my load is still accurate at 10*F, its amazing to me how much elevation I've lost compared to when I did the initial load work in the summer at a temperature in the high 70's.

This is just a general example of what I've found with one particular rifle. Even though such large temperature variation, I am still surprised this load is still accurate. Sub MOA.

Any others having the same results, and have you learned it is the rifle, or rifle load combination?
How do you compensate? Just the addition of powder, or do you just run your sights up?

I've been running the sights up as of now, but contemplating a hotter load for winter use.

Interested in what others have found, thanks.

You will probably have to work up a winter load due to temp fluctuations however dont mix them up as it could cause damage in higher temps or personal injury.Heed this warning.Mark the cases or box they are in and be real careful how you work up.Changing the primer like some suggest may be a disater as well.Just work up slowly till you see pressure signs and back off alittle. It is probably the load and you didnt mention what powder or primer or bullet or caliber.

You didn't mention what powder that you were using. My experience with brand X was the same as your's that's why I shoot a lot of Hodgdon Extreme powders. I have checked them as well and there is a VERY slight difference between hot & cold. Even though at times Brand X is slightly more accuarate, I'll give up 1/4" for hunting.
