Tell me about the Rem. 541 X Target rifle

Kind of local store has one for sale. Looks to be barely used . Only drawback is that there is no way to mount a scope.

Anyone have one and how does it shoot? Any better than my well used 540x?

Thanks

I just bought one a couple of months ago. Very accurate rifle, but the trigger was horrible (8-1/2 lbs on my Lyman gauge) and non adjustable. I found an adjustable version that would fit and put it in the gun and using a shorter spring I was able to get it to a crisp 1-1/2 lbs. I also refinished the stock and added a taller set of Williams sights. As it sits today. I have shot several one hole groups with it so far.

The magazines are plastic but I found a source for metal mags. Expensive but well made and they work great.

The action is the same or similar on Remington 580, 581, 582, 540, 541, with variations for single shot, repeater, and tube fed. They can be drilled and tapped easily.
There are a few smiths that can modify the trigger. I believe the Remington 788 uses the same trigger.
Here is a link to modify your trigger.

Lots of good info.

Regarding the 788 trigger - I did this with mine. Huge trigger improvement. Mine is a 541 trainer through the CMP. Good shooter, but original trigger was long and creepy.

Yep, I used the same trigger + a shorter spring. Now it's 1.5#. I can live with that.
