Tell me about Anschutz 54--likes/dislikes

Sooo, went by the LGS to look at a Marlin 39A in pristine condition and the owner called me back in the shop to ask about some old primers he got and we were talking about what they are worth. Looked over at a cleaning cradle and there was an Anschutz. Asked if its a 64 and he said "No" its a 54. Single shot, with 6.5-20 leupold Vari-x scope.

"How much" sez I and he gave me a figure (think I got a good deal!!), so both the Marlin and Anschutz followed me home. Oh, along with a brick of PMC Target 22's for $40 that they buyer of the rifle got a chance to buy.

Now to try some different ammo I have, but what do you shoot in yours for serious work and what for just plinking/practice?

Thanks

Seems like a waste of plinking ammo to shoot it in a 54. How much do you want to spend on "the good stuff"??? If you are really serious you can go to or ship the rifle to one of the Lapua test facilities and buy a couple of cases of the best for your individual rifle. Otherwise, SK Standard Plus is about the floor of the good stuff.
There are dozens of high end ammos for bench rest type of shooting. They run up to about $40 a brick, if you can find it.

54 was my first match rifle. Bought used when I was 14. I wish that I still had it. Back then the "club ammo" was Tenex ( well, it was in Birmingham, UK). 25yd indoor range at King Edward's Grammar School.

How about $120 a brick to $200 for good stuff. For cheap stuff I've used the SK match and Aguila SE ammo. They work ok, but we don't use them in matches if we want to be competitive. The cheaper stuff is about $50 a brick.

Just looked up the SK match-$100+ per brick.

Just came with the Leupold scope.

Took a bunch of ammo out, most of it was HV. Aguila SE, Federal HV and Automatch and some stuff in white Federal boxes, but I have read that it is CCI mini mag and lastly some Norma Match 22.

Aguila was fair, Automatch was better (wind blowing a bit so 1/2" wide group, Federal HV about like the CCI mini mag, about 3/4"@50yds, but when I tried the Norma (wind had died for the bit) I shot 3 in a group that measures roughly 0.312" outside dia., so a 0.090" three shot group. Glad I have a couple bricks of this.

What are these rifles worth? Curious about my "deal"

Looking at Gunbroker, looks like the 54 the store sold me might be a model 64 Silhouette instead!!!

Up to $40.00 a brick . WOW, where at ?

Your looks like a model 54
silhoutte. I just bought one off GunBroker for $1700.00 It like the SK Standard plus. But loves Lapua Center X. I bought it for a practice rifle. I have a Anschutz 1813. That I bought new back in the 80's. just had Mark Penrod rebarrel it with a Shilen Ratchet. for an small bore F-class rifle.

It's an Anschutz Model 54.18 MS silhouette rifle. It has the excellent Anschutz 5018 trigger.
The repeating model is the 54.18 MSR.

Thanks for the information. Really appreciate it. Does have a pretty good trigger

Will be on the lookout for some SK standard plus
