ducks-and-bucks

Everytime one is for sale everyone ask what the prefix is on it... what does the prefix tell you about the action? What is best? What is not good? Can someone explain this to me please!!!

You will get a lot of opinions. The late model one are CNC machined. If I were to build one from scratch and couldn't afford machine work on the receiver, I would start with a recent one.

From another source:

1000-387347 1st block in 1967
6200000-6899999 2nd block 11-26-68
A6200000-A6899999 A series started 8-25-75
B6200000-B6899999 B series started about 1-80
C6200000-C6899999 C series started 11-87
Taken from Remington 700 25 years 1962-1987 by John F.Lacy

Not sure when later prefixes started.

I believe that there is a belief that newer production cuts quality corners and older ones are perceived as better. I believe what Butch is saying is that the newer ones might be built on newer equipment with better machining and may need less work to "true" the action than the older ones.
