Taurus M63-should I buy it?

At LGS on consignment. Asked 3 salesmen about it. Took 2 to figure how to open the action, none could figure out what the knurled/slotted nut in rear of action was for. I shouldn't complain, neither did I ??? Anyway, very nice looking little 22rf, blued. Look's almost new. Guess they were discontinued about 2011. Cost $160-250 new. Now asking $325. Not good set up for scope mounting, was only drawback I could find, seemed to function ok, in my searches. Any feedback would be welcomed. Thanks, Ron.

It's patterned after the Winchester Model 63, as you probably guessed. It was imported from 2003 to 2007. In 2007 only it was available with a scope mount provision. Unless it is in 100% condition AND is a 2007 version with the factory scope mount, $325 is a bit dear, though not way out of line. Also, 2005-2006 versions with the factory tang sight are worth about the same premium as the 2007 model (about $30 over the basic adjustable rear sight model) with the factory scope mount provision. If it was 100% and didn't have one of the two sight upgrades mentioned, I personally wouldn't go over $300 retail for it; 98% is worth about $45 less, 95% about $75 less.

Great info. I will get the Serial # for input into Taurus web and try to find year of mfg. I might be able to get it for less, never know. Did the scope mount have a dovetail or ?. Seems like a very nice rifle. Thanks. Ron.

If you like it - buy it. IMO - Waiting for the "right" price is secondary to the fun and pride of owning a new rimfire...

Wyo,
Personally, I've never held, let alone fired a Taurus M63. But from what I've read about them from folks who've owned them, they are very nice quality piece and actually better made than some of the similar reproductions made by US companies. As for the price, like Merlin1 says, if it gives you those warm and fuzzies inside, passing by on a rifle that isn't seen all that much that you REALLY like, would be a mistake IMHO. I've been known to buy a rifle that you haven't seen before, just because it looks "BITCHIN!." Again, that rifle has a good reputation amongst those who own or have owned them. I've still got my first .22 Rimfire that was given to me as a teenager back in 1962 and it was made in 1952. Still shoots great regardless of it's age. Ain't exactly as accurate as my Anschutz. But it is still BITCHIN in my eyes.

Talked to the owner. He wouldn't budge on price. I decided to pass. Too many other toys I need, like some 22rf for my bolt guns. This ammo shortage is clouding my desire for expanding my rifles. It would be a safe queen, more than likely. Thanks for the encouragement. Ron.
