Target

What do you guys use as a target I have been shooting at paper tacked to plywood. It does not leave a crisp bullet hole to measure. How heavy of paper do I need to use to clean up the group. What are you guys shooting at?

Put a piece of cardboard behind the paper.

The other option is instead of plywood use corrugated (sp?) plastic sheet. Then just staple the paper to it.

I use 8-1/2 x 11 card stock (110 lb). You can get a ream (250 sheets) of it at most office supply places and it will run through laser printers.

If you can find a source, try old conveyor belt as a backing.

+1. The holes will look great if you turn your target over, push the peddles down and tape over them. Later! Frank

I use the corrugated plastic political signs, plastic coated heavy cardboard political signs, abandoned out of date advertising signs made of corrugated plastic, cardboard cut from large boxes, etc.
All work very well.

A-flute "white"(.060-.085) depending on spec (potato chip box/pop case thickness) with D-flute (.245-.287) dbl wall corrugated as a backer. Next would be the Card stock and Blk. fiberboard or corro-plast combos.

I use the ARA target from Dan Killough. $20 for a hundred and they are nice, heavy stock. Here's his site:

I've had good luck with white butcher paper. Bought a long roll (500 ft x 2 ft wide) for freezing meat and have been tearing of appropriate lengths to use. Works great for long range OCW tests (or the like) as you can make the vertical lengths to size with enough horizontal range (2 ft) for "normal" wind drifts to 800+ yds. Stapling it to plywood, cardboard, etc has worked well. One thing that does not seem to work well as a backing is 1/8" hardboard (like pegboard but solid) - seems to stretch on impact and leave "starred" holes.

I use card stock paper taped to cardboard. I've found the paper has to be pulled totally tight against the cardboard to leave clean holes. I've tried to tape the target to the cardboard the night before but always seems to end up with a pucker. Have to tape it all up the day I head to the range for it to work best.

If you have time to make them up the night before, try some automotive spray adhesive on the back of the target then stick it to the cardboard. I sometimes print targets from my computer and attach then using that method. It works very well.
