Target number size for 600 yards

How large do the target numbers need to be in order to see at 600 yards? We are in the development / fabrication phase of converting our 600 yard range to host midrange matches. I’ve got plywood 36”x36”. Would a 36” number be sufficient? Attached photo is a trial. However is there a rule on size? I’m basically trying to use the center cutout from the shotmarker target boards to help keep cost in check. Appreciate any feedback or direction. Thanks Jeremy

No rule on size in NRA rules.
6.6 Target Numbers—The numbers will be large enough to be identified under ordinary conditions with normal vision. Numbers must correspond with firing point numbers. Target numbers will be fixed in position so as to remain visible when targets are exposed and when concealed. Single digit numbers on the number boards to correspond to the last digit of the firing point number will be allowed, and should be painted black on white or white on black.
But bigger is better, especially if they are some distance from the target. I would go 4X6.

I would want at least 4’ - 5’ tall for irons - peep & post or aperture - @ 600. If I can’t clearly read it with the naked eye from 600 then it isn’t big enough. Black on white and white on black alternating. No funky fonts.
