Talley ring height for Rem 700 varmint barrel with 40mm scope

I'm trying to get rings as low as possible with a 1" tube Leupold 6.5x20-40mm with flip covers on a Model 700 Varmint Special with factory heavy varmint barrel. I'm looking at the Talley #930700 which they call a low. The medium #940700 might be needed for cover clearance if I could find a measurement. Talley doesn't show any height dimensions that I can find. Thanks for any help.

Yes lows should work fine. Rear ring measures .51 from center of scope to top of receiver. Lows have worked for me with heavier Varmint type barrels. You might stack some coins to that approx height under scope just to check though. MidwayUSA has Talley dimensions listed.

I’m sorry but I think those demensions would have to be from bottom of tube to top of receiver instead of the way they have them listed. Sorry for the confusion.

It is confusing.

I talked to Talley and they show for Rem 700 lightweight rings.

Ex Low=.3"
Low =.4"
Med=.5"
High=.6"
Ex High=.7"

He recommended Medium with the varmint barrel and measuring things he looks right. I've got .700" now with .300" clearance.
Thanks for the help McGraw.
