Talking about powders....

Here's something for the ballistic experts to discuss. <g> I reload 223 Remington for a three bolt and one semi-auto, a 22 BR, 6mm BR, and 22-250. Let's say I reload for the 22-250 5% of the time, the 223 Rem's about 45% of the time, the 6mmBR 30% of the time, and the 22 BR about 20% of the time.,I hope that totals 100%). Consider all ranges as 100 yards on paper targets only.

For someone who is getting ready to order powder, say 10 lbs, what powders would you restock for these calibers, and why? I am partial to Hodgdon powders and I have a lot of experience with Varget, H322, and Benchmark, but I am soliciting your opinions as good powders for my stable of rifles.

So I'm interested in seeing what recommendations ya'll make......thanks.

PS - I've gotten tips on component availablility here before, so I'll pass on one myself in return: Midway has 22 cal 52 gr Matchkings on sale and in stock for $15.15 per hundred. Don't get the box of 500, it's more than 5 * $15.15.

Paper sniper -

Howdy !

My two cents.....

The .223 and .22Br could get by pretty well on H4895,, or VV133 say.
THese are BR-sized cases, and 4895 has a past history of performance with them.

The .22-250 would do good on ( most likely ) I4064, VV160, WW70, H414, I4007; I4350 . These powders cover the 50-60gr bullet span, and most will give high load density.

The 6BR boys appear quite fond of Varget ( but I myelf believe it a tad too fast for a larger case like a .22-250 ). Of course, I prefer higher load densities.

I sure would hate for someone to leave out H380 when your talking about a powder for the 22-250. And also, the new 8208-XBR might want to be considered for all 3 cartridges.
My $.02.
