Taking a break, Have any of you?

ARIZONA_F_CLASS

I haven't pulled the High Power trigger since Feb 19th. And only a weekend of smallbore since then.

Have any of you taken a break from shooting? This is really out of the norm for me, since the last 2.5 years. I haven't gone longer than a week since I picked up the rifle.

I have been wanting to go, just haven't made the effort to load ammo and get things ready. :o I have been concentrating on business. Which really comes first anyways.

So have any of you taken a break before?

I've taken a few in the last 12-13 years or so, same as you when work just couldn't allow for it. That an still being active duty.
Now other than that I have taken breaks before just like you mentioned "loading amo and getting ready" that in itself makes it look like a chore/job.
Take a break and find out again why you enjoy doing it. Dont loose the passion for the sport and allow it to turn into a dreaded thing.
Heck pick up a plinking gun an have some fun shoots with friends and family. The spark will soon reignite. Also a good time to inventory your equipment and see where your at before that things get crazy.

Yes, every winter.

Before SWN, I had shot once in the prior two months.

The curse of living up north...

Curse? lol I have shot in 116 weather. The white stuff would be a nice change. :)

Thanks Memo, I'm hoping I can get out this week., But I have been saying that for a few weeks now. lol It was an addiction for awhile. So this was a nice change for awhile, longer than I thought though. I just hope I can get back on that horse where I left off.

And I will have to admit, that I do feel really relaxed now. :)

Didn't pull a trigger from Nov 2013- Dec- 2014 ....on anything except my pistols. I have started to shoot a bit of steel this spring. BIG FUN!!!!! Thinking about trying "F" class this summer.

Yep, right now taking a break. Birth of our first child (son) in early April. He takes priority over everything else right now. Hope to be back on the line here this month sometime.

Arizona,
I do most of my shooting during the "cooler" months of the year as I know how LOUSY it can be to shoot in 100+ degree weather. Living in the High Desert of CA, I learned years ago that somewhere between the heat frying one's brain and some gun powders not cooperating because of the temps, it's a waste of time and a "cool down" is in order, if for no other reason than to clear my mind. Finding something else to do isn't that big a problem as around 8 years ago I took up cycling so during those nice warm summer months, I'm usually on the road at 6 am in 80+ degree weather as there is no way in hell, I'm shooting or cycling in 100 degree weather. Besides, I get "cabin fever" and do miss going to the range so instead of weekly, I do it bi-weekly so as not to loose my technique and passion of target shooting. But then I don't have any of the neat ranges you folks in Arizona have. And that has me thinkin about maybe making the move to your neck of the woods.

I am usually an ON or OFF kind of guy.
I am thinking about trying to "take a break" from competing in any capacity and just shoot for fun by myself in the fields. I fear if I don't I will get more tired of the little pressures and sell it all and quit all together.

I have missed most of my spring fishing the last few years, so I'm staying local for the month of May to catch up with some of my old bad habits. Lol Theres a boat calling my name! It's hard to stop shooting with so many great matches out there now. Things are looking pretty good for the sport.

I'm retired, I think that means a lot when it comes to how many time you shoot. If I was working I doubt I would be shooting as much. I shoot 8 local summer matches and 3 or 4 in Florida in the winter. This seems like taking a break, since I used to shoot another 6 summer matches.

I'm glad I'll be done with school for the spring tomorrow. Between school from 7:30 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon and working from 4:00 in the afternoon till 11:00-midnight 7 days a week, it's hard to squeeze in quality range time in that 2 hour period. I still manage to get out for a few hours during the weekend. Glad I don't have a girlfriend to deal with on top. ;)

Been waiting on a build for 2+ years. F class has been a nice distraction and really helped in developing wind reading. Hopefully will get to shoot the the new gun this June .

I have more of an affinity for multiple disciplines than focusing on one which helps explain in my mind a "middle of the pack" result but I really like mixing it up.

I took about six years off when I stopped running the long range program/ matches. I just got burned out and only came out three times over that time period. I used a mk12 build and a new mid-range program a buddy developed to get me interested again. My daughter taking an interest helped immensely, and we built her a rifle. I'm Starting to get the bug to want to win again, but I'm finding it's not so easy to get back into the swing of things :/

For the time being, I'm freshening my barrels and trying a new caliber out to keep things interesting.

Every year I take a break, from early November until mid April, it's called winter. With a new baby, my break was longer this year.

Congrats on the new shooting buddy!!!! :)

Took about a 35-year break after competing extensively at international skeet and clay pigeon (bunker), plus a little high-power silhouette. Now shooting running deer and 100-300yd groundhog events, and enjoying it very much.

Raced sports cars and fly fished through the break. Still enjoying the latter. Was able to do both at one venue, walking from the pits to a trout stream.
