Switching from Lapua to Pererson brass for my Dasher, what are the issues?

I have been shooting my Borden 6 dasher rifle with hydroformed Lapua sine I had it built. The brass has been fired many times. I tried to find a box of new Lapua but thats unobtanium now. I was think of switching to Peterson brass. How will Peterson measure up in my chamber (cut for Lapua/Barts hammers). What will I need to do with my loads and how will this new brass fit in my chamber?

easy ...hard... ?

Just verify that you have ample neck clearance on a loaded round, back off a couple of grains and work back up. You’ll probably find it takes half a grain to a grain less powder to get back into your node. Peterson brass is of the highest quality.

I fire formed 150 Peterson 6 br brass to Dasher. No problems fire forming, blow lengths are a little longer than with Lapua. Multiple firings primer pockets are still tight. Start two or more grains lower.

I fire-formed Peterson brass for my 6BRX back last year and found it to be O K. The chamber was a no-turn. It did fine with a little less powder than the Lapua brass and accuracy was about the same as Lapua.

Definitely back down 1-2gr. A friend was using fireformed Lapua 6BR, bought Peterson 2-3 years ago started to blow primers, thought it was neck clearance even though he had necked the brass, saw the picture of the sectioned brass BR posted here, reduced powder charge, problem solved.

Peterson ^ Dasher brass is what I was looking at. This will reduce fireforming.

If I FL size and load one of my bullets, should I only be concerned with the outside neck diameter, with this new brass?

I would consider doing some research before going the Peterson route for Dasher. I was considering the same thing myself but after looking into it I decided not to go that direction. The feedback seemed more negative than positive on the topic.

I can't speak to Dasher specifically, but will say I prefer Peterson brass for x47. I found it to be measurably more consistent out of the box in neck thickness. Primer pockets seem to be tighter and with less camphor too. Velocity wise, Peterson runs consistently 50 ft/s slower than Lapua. For what it's worth, it is also packaged better so you won't have dented cases like sometimes happens with Lapua. Look, we all know Lapua is amazing, but Peterson is every bit as good. I look for Peterson first but will buy Lapua if I can't find any. Both are of equal quality to me, with a slight edge to Peterson.

I'm sure you'll find some significant differences that you'll want to make adjustments for. I had the same question for my 6.5 PRC and got hold of some Peterson brass and compared it to my Lapua brass. Here's what that looked like:

Since Lapua 6 BR Norma brass seems to be unobtainable anywhere at any time, the question for me is use peterson or not shoot dasher for awhile.

The Lapua brass I have, has been shot many many times.

Think I may shelve the dasher for a year and shoot my other calibers. Who knows a box of Lapua may appear. (too bad I didn't stock a few more boxes). I'm not a serious competitor like some guys, so I can do other things for a while. Not sure if the shortage is a supply or demand issue.

If a box turns up, is there someone that hydroforms, since DJ stopped forming dasher brass?

Interesting discussion from everyone. Always appreciate the educated responses on our forum.

I know it's easier to hydroform than fireform, but the first brass I bought, Lapua, I did the false shoulder & slight jam. Shot a match and won !!! If I could afford it, I'd shoot new brass all the time !!!! rsbhunter
