Switch barrel gun question?

I have a Savage 10fcp in 308. It has been glass bedded 1.5" infront of the Receiver to free float the barrel. I would like to order a Pacnor prefit barrel for this rifle in 6.5x47Lapua. Does the prefit barrel need to be the exact contour as the current barrel? Can I change the contour and still get a good fit in the stock, and current bedding or am I limited to this Barrel and contour?

Sorry for the Statement of my topic! I guess I'm in a bad mood this afternoon! I do need someone to explain this to me! I am a amature and I just got fet up with some of the smart A** reply's from previous questions and answers on other's topic!

The only issue created by a different contour will be possible interference from the fore end section of the stock and the new barrel. Even if the contours are the same, normal manufacturing tolerances may create some interference issues. Consequently, when you go to a new barrel, you will need to confirm stock clearances relative to the new barrel. Since you have some bedding in front of the recoil lug, you will need to confirm correct fit of the action with the new barrel. I usually do not bed anything in front of the recoil lug but float the barrel from the recoil lug on. That way new barrels may need some additional relief but don't affect the bedding of the action.

I have a Borden Rimrock with four barrels in 3 calibers...Bought from Carstensen...All will shoot within 2 inches of the other at 100 when changed out...No bedding under the barrel....Glue in receiver..Best gun I ever owned..
6 BR 14 twist
6 BR 9 twist
6 PPC 14 twist
6x284 12.75 twist
Checkin zero on 5-21-2010..shot 3shot group at 700 yds 4 inch wide 1 inch high with 51 grains of RL 22 and 75 gr Ser varmiter bullet...Would have shot more but got to be stingy with shots down the barrel...LT

deadlyswift: One of my switch barrels has 1" of bedding in front of the receiver for contact with 2 fitted barrels, both with the standard 1.250" shank diameter. The third barrel for that receiver has a slightly smaller diameter, so no contact: it does not seem to matter, one way or the other. Leading me to question the value of bedding the small area in front of the receiver.

Not to many folks on this site give out many smart a__ answers as a rule !!!
No need for any bedding under the barrel ahead of the lug, and if there was it would not be free floating...
if you want the new barrel to be a exact fit you'll need the barrel you have copied to a T...
Or...
Dig the bedding pad out from under the barrel and use whatever barrel your stock will accept and you'll be GTG....
