Swift Scirocco Bullets

Has anybody out there been able to get consistently good accuracy with 7mm 150 gr. Swift Scirocco bullets? I bought a box of these bullets several years ago and was never able to get consistent accuracy. I shot several groups that I was very happy with,0.5" to 0.75" at 100 yards), but then would go back to the range to verify and get 2"+ groups with the same load? I tried the bullets in several rifles,7mm-08, .280 Rem., 7mm Magnum), but all my rifles performed the same, good accuracy on occassion, but then very poor accuracy with the same loads on other occassions. I've tried jumping the bullets, kissing the lands, seating into the lands, various powders, etc., but could never get the consistently satisfactory accuracy I was looking for. By the way, each of these rifles shoot consistently very well with Nosler Ballistic Tips, Hornadys, and Sierras. I eventually gave up on the Scirocco bullets.

I like the high BC,>0.5) provided by these bullets and was very happy with the terminal performance on the two deer I shot Sciroccos... two shots, 2 DRT deer.

Then Swift unveiled the new "improved" Scirocco II that was supposed to address the accuracy problem. I eventually bought a box, but have found the exact same problem - inconsistent accuracy. Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

I had a similar experience with a pair of 7mm STWs and the 1st design Scirocco's.I found that using a powder slow for bullet weight helped me out. Powders that I now use for those bullets in those rifles are, H 5010,H 870, VV N170 with Fed 215 Match primers. They will shoot sub MOA with all 3 powders. BTW I actually get better accuracy with the Swift A-Frames avg.,5/8in)

I shoot sciroccos in my 300 win mag, 3006, 308, 270, and .243.

Great bullets on weight retention.

I found they shoot best at the highest possible velocity.

Bill Hobert President of Swift Bullets suggest jumping them .050-.100.

I am not sure I agree their loading book is a joke compare to my personal test findings.

I had the same problem in a 7 Mag with the II version. I changed to the Barnes Tripple shock 140g and have no problems at all with 1/2" accuracy. If you shoot a 7 Mag, email me and I'll give you the load.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I guess I will try jumping them farther than my usual practice, usually <0.01") and will also try a little hotter loads with slow burning powders and see what happens. I hope it works, because I do like the Scirocco bullet - high BC and great terminal performance.

Keith - I do not have a straight 7mm Rem Mag, but do have a 7mm SAUM. I have also found good accuracy with 140 gr. Triple Shocks in that rifle. I also get very good accuracy with 120 gr Tipped TSX in my 7mm-08. In fact, I just shot a nice Montana whitetail buck last Thursday with 120 gr. T-TSX in the 7mm-08. 266 yard shot, the buck ran about 30-40 yards after the hit and went down. Complete pass through with a broken shoulder on the exit side... the lungs were jelly.

I'm having the same problem getting consistent groups with the 90gn Sciroccos in my .243. The bullets appear to be relatively long for their weight so my guess is that my 10 twist barrel isn't spinning them fast enough.

I had the same issues, with a 243, threw them out and bought different bullets it's not worth the hassle.

Now the Swift A-frame is a different story. When I want accuracy AND performance that's the bullet I ALWAYS use.

Moo, i shoot the 90 Scirocco's out of my 10 twist Hart in 243AI and get 1/2moa @ 400yrds. Maybe you need a little more speed. I tried the 105 and can't get them to stabilize, 4"@100. :, Anything above 95 gets all wobbeley, but the all 85g-90g bullets shoot inside 1moa @ 400. The scriocco's made a mess of the 3 coyotes and 2 whitetails this year. out to 280yrds. DRT

I am now shoting the 90 in a 1:8, 5C Broughton. That seems to stabilize them pretty good.

The 150s don't shoot as well as the Nosler Accubonds in a 1:12, 5C Broughton. I have only shot 7 deer with the Accubonds and don't think the Accubonds hold together as well as the Sciroccos.

The 180s shoot well in a 1:10 in my 300Win Mag. They hold weight just as good or better than Partitions.

Tunanut, what speeds are you getting with the AI?. I was getting 3200fps with 44.5gns of H4350 but accuracy was inconsistant. I was interested in the 90 Scirocco as an all round bullet for both varmint and deer but in my case they didn't like my rifle.

I'll have to put chronograph on my xmas list. The load is 45g H414. It may need some tweeking because 44g shot almost just as good groups. I'll be working on my range in the spring getting it really dialed in. I must be getting old if all i hunt with now is a 243 and 7mm-08.
