SWFA- 10X, 12X or 16X?

I've always wanted to try one of these fixed, classic scopes. SWFA SS is on sale, ending today, for $199, 10% off accessories and free shipping.

I think I will take the plunge on the 12X. I kind of wobbled between the 10X and 14X and wasn't sure which to choose and the 12X seems to be a good guess.

Decent eyesight, in the light, 300 to 600 range mostly but I would like to and can shoot to 800 to 1000. I reload and will be shooting year around with my 6mm Remington bolt.

My question is, will the 12X allow me to hit plates, all things considered, at 800 to 1000 and will it be overkill at 300?

Not overkill at 300, and more than sufficient to hit plates. Many folks can do it with a red dot, and service rifles with 4.5x scopes do well in 1000-yard competition. The NRA Highpower championship has been won a few times with a service rifle (once with irons IIRC).

I would go 16x, of 600+ is to be a regular thing. NF at 700 yd @22x seems to work well. Easily spots hits.
I pushed the button on the 12X. 300 to 600 is going to be the bulk of my shooting and I shot sweet groups with a 3x9 Nikon at 300. I'll run this 12X and if I need more I'll jump to the 16X.

Thanks, for the feedback.

I believe you made the correct choice with 12x. I use a similar scope out to 1k all the time with great results. I have a fixed 16x on a bigger caliber and the field of view is quite limited at the closer ranges. Have fun!

The 12x is a great choice! I think you'll love it. I have a few SS scopes and I really like the 16x. It's adequate at 1000yds and still works our great in the southern PA fields groundhog hunting. To me, 16x the perfect choice. With that being said, I CANNOT use the 16x for any woods hunting because it's simply too narrow focused to be reasonable. I believe the 10 or 12 would be the "best all around" if that is what you are looking for.

I’ve had the SS 6x, 10x, and 16x. The 6x is a great hunting scope, the 10x is a good crossover scope for medium to long range. The 16x is not nearly as good optically as the 6x or 10x. Believe it or not, you can hit easily at 1000 yards with the 10x.
