Swede CG63 6.5x55

being very new and completely smitten with this obsession, i need help on a spring PD hunt. i have a volquartsen VG-1 17 hmr for close, and just bought a Kimber Longmaster 22-250 for medium. now the crux of the matter. i have a perfect swede cg-63 6.4x55 which has reached my limits with the elite peep and is awaiting a turned handle so the custom tasco 4-40x scope can be mounted. this is going to look 80 years old but shoot great. was hoping to use this for the longer range at the hunt and would greatly apppreciate any and all suggestions. thanks.

The CG-63 target versions of the Swedish Mauser are normally very accurate guns, and the stocks, while heavy, would be comfortable to shoot as a hunting rifle.

Keep in mind that the asking price on these rifles keeps going up every year. If you CG-63 is in great shape, one option would be to sell it and get a dedicated hunting rifle with synthetic stock etc.

Otherwise, you'll probably want to cut the barrel down. For scope installation on this kind of rifle, a dual dovetail with Burris Signature rings works real well. If you're planning to hunt deer and medium-sized game, a Zeiss conquest 3.5-10x44 or 4.5-14x44 scope would be a good choice. Both offer 3.5" of constant eye relief with a +2/-3 diopter adjustment. Bear Basin Outfitters has pretty good prices on Zeiss: http://www.bearbasin.com/conquestspecs.htm
