I'm trying to find a reasonably priced long range scope that can be used for dialup to 1000 yds.
Both the Swarovki and Leica have superb optics, but their turrets really have me baffled.
The Swarovki Z5 5-25 comes with a "ballistic turret" that has adjustable rings you can set to 200/300/400 etc. The specs say it has 43 IPHY elevation adjustment but the turret appears to be limited to 1 revolution which is 16 IPHY. So the 43 IPHY elevation adjustment is not really available.
Even if the rotation stop could be removed? there does not appear to be any index to enable returning to zero?
The Leica is even more dear I say it "stupid"! 70 MOA of elevation adjustment, but no zero stop and no index to keep track of revolutions. You can screw the dial 9 times around and havnt got a clue where you are.
What the f...k were they thinking...clearly there were not thinking at all! Thats about a dumb as their Geovid range finder is in only displaying drop on MOA in whole numbers. Is it really that hard to make a scope with a turret that can be used to dial in at long range?
The only other viable option out there seems to be the Meopta HTR 6.5-20*50 which is the old Zeiss Conquest MC that Meopta made for Zeiss USA. I've got the new Zeiss HD5 in 5-25 and its is a serious downgrade on the old MC, optics are worst, turrets are hopeless, tunnel FOV and 5 oz heavier. How they can say thats an upgrade is beyond me.
I really want the Leica 4-20 as its the perfect varipower for my use, and every reasonably priced, but its no use for dialing at all
I'm sure I did read somewhere that the Leica had a return to zero, but doesnt look like it to me. Someone please tell me I'm wrong and that the Leica or Swarovki can be used to dial.
