Swapping Scale Pans???

I have one of Scott Parker's "enhanced" Lyman M5 Scales. I throw a short-load on a RCBS ChargeMaster using its pan (138.6grs), finishing up on the M5 using it's pan (148.2gr). Can I just use the RCBS or the M5 pan for both? (I know I can zero (tare) the RCBS with any pan, is the M5 pan "weighted" for that scale?

Tare the CM with the M5 pan.

Scott Parker

Make both pans weigh the same with a file used on the handle edge.
Then set both set up both scales to work with the light pan 138.6 grain pans

You can compensate by adding or removing weight from the pan holder. You'll have to fiddle with whatever you use for weight to get it right.

I'd be reluctant to fiddle with a scale that's had Scott's previous attention. Try all other options first.

Listen to Scott

You can add blue painters tape to the bottom of your light pan. Get it close then shave off what's needed with a razor to make them weigh the same

Beam scales are balanced for a specific scale pan. Take weight off the Parker scale pan & you make it a nice table decoration.

Thanks for all the input - I'll follow Scott's direction. No way would I mess with that M5! Before I posted I tried using the M5 pan "tared" as that seemed the most logical. Reloading went well using the RCBS CM, M5, laptop, and an USB camera.

All you have to do is change the weight of the shot in the bottom of the pan hanger.
Maybe you need to try working on a scale.
My first pan changing exercise was on a an AMT Autoscale that Lyman was too dense to fix about 1987.

I've worked on scales, but why would you mess with a Scott Parker?
