SW 50bmg powder and the 338

Tested some of the shooters world 50bmg powder in my 338 Carnie to see where it burn rate was compared to H50bmg. Being a ball powder it’s obviously more dense; 121gr compared to 128gr of the same volume. It’s also faster. I’m going to say more in the Retumbo range. At 130gr of SW it was sending 265gr Badlands at about 3300fps. It took an extra 4.5gr of H50 to get that speed.

I think it might work well for a 300 Norma though

"This propellant is optimized for .50 BMG. Its burn rate is slower than WC 860 (surplus, pull-down, or virgin brass) and faster than US 869. It is a spherical propellant, manufactured with flash suppressant, and has a density of approximately 1 gram/cc. SW 50BMG is a canister form of Explosia bulk and Lovex canister propellant D100-01."

I’ve never measured water capacity. It’s basically an improved cheytac. 338 Carnie on the left, 375 Snipetac on the right.

Also, I tested the density to compare on a fixed volume so a guy can compare direct to some of the more commonly used slow powders

what grain bullet are you running in the 338 Carnie and how fast?Thanks. I wouldnt mind building one..Is it faster/better than 33XC ?

285 and 265 mostly

Had the 285 above 3500 but ran at matches at 3340 because it grouped best there. It’s a bit faster than an xc. There was a lot of unusable capacity sadly. I’m looking into an enabler this time around. Waiting on word about the price of dies
