Surgeon actions for BR

I've always been in love with Surgeon rifles, but I don't really want to build another field tactical boomer. Ok, I do, but I want to shoot BR comps for the fun and to refine my loading skills. I know the owner is doing pretty well shooting in BR. Does anyone on this forum shoot a Surgeon in the smaller calibers like 6 PPC, 6x47, 6BR, etc? When I talk to local BR guys they stress the action so much, but I've always got the impression loading techniques/ consistency and wind reading really set you apart.

If you have reasons why or why not to use a Surgeon, can you give mechanical examples?

Thanks for the info. I just sold a bunch of music gear so maybe I can buy a Surgeon (or another custom action) and stare at it for a while waiting for my barrel to come in :'(

I just had Robert Green build a 6BRX built on a Surgeon 591 action, Brux barrel and a MBR stock, it sure shoots pretty good..I'm shooting F Class not BR but I would imagine it'll still do fine!

One of the shooters that attends our score matches uses a surgeon and is not handicapped at all by it. He will be the first to tell you that if something is off it's the nut behind the trigger that makes a poor shot, or more recently for him the barrel just quit after 5,000rnds (30br).
I think if you went with their target model you would not be disappointed. I don't know if they make a PPC bolt face model, but a nice 6 or 30br might fit the bill well.

Take a look at the Grunig & Elmiger as well as the Bleiker actions. A whooooooooooooooooooooooole different level of guns and actions. My heart always misses a few beats every time I stop to worship at their web sites :-)
