Surgeon 591 tolerances

I plan on getting the 591 SA repeater as part of the SH group buy. Does anyone know if the target tolerances are too tight for other uses.. i.e. hunting? I would like to get one action that will do more than one job, but I don't want to limit myself the range with an action that is too tight.

Bottom Gun,

I have a GAP Hospitaller with the Surgeon 591 Tactical action. It shoots like a benchrest rifle. I've submitted an article on it and it will be on this site inthe near future. Honestly you don't need the target action. I also think the target action only comes as a single shot. Like I said you don't need it, my Hospitaller in .308 will shoot under 2 1/2 inches at 500 meters of a rest.
One thing you need to be careful of however is the rings you use. The Surgeon actions built in rail is a bit lower than add on rails like the Badger and on my Hospitaller with a 56MM Nightforce NXS and Seekins high (.97) rings the objective bell is only .049 ( not quite an 1/16 inch off the barrel). Just enough to slide a Butler Creek lens cap on and that's it. I think a Nightforce BR with the paralax on the objective would be touching, or not fit at all with the Seekins rings. I may switch to the USMC DMR Badgers for a bit more clearance which should give me .11, or the high Badgers which would give me .204 clearance. Hope this helps.

I have been shooting my 591 single shot for a while now with two barrels and close to 4k rounds down it. I beleive that everything else being equal ie barrel, ammo, and trigger puller they are as good as any action on the market. If you have any questions about clearance or tolerance call them 405-567-0183 Preston or one of the guys will answer your questions.
