Suppressor Recommendations

MN just passed legislation recently allowing us mere citizens to possess suppressors. Several of us are forming trusts and need help with choosing cans.
After briefly looking, it seems the can market is much like the AR accessory market. Machine shops on every corner claim they are making the best unit.

I have heard good things about Thunderbeast and have a friend who works for Surefire. Both reputable companies. What is your experiences?

My first thoughts were that I need two; the first for .223 up through .308 rifles, and the second for the .300 RUM and .338 Lapua rifles.

I am doing my research now as you are but for a pistol can. After a 14 month wait, I received my Gemtech Sandstorm for my 308 and 300 Blackout. In a one word "amazing" would fit the bill. My sub loads in my 308 can be fired from the back of my underground basement with the walk out doors open for the bullet to leave the area, and do it without hearing protection. I had a friend stand outside the house, parallel with the door and tell me how much difference there was between the 308 and a 4 1/2" bbl. unsuppressed 22RF using standard velocity ammo. His reply was the bullet hitting down range was more quiet from the 308 than the 22 being fired. Loudness was comparable, but the tone very different.

Go with a company thats been around a while and has a big name. Thats not saying the smaller shops dont make quiet ones but the big names like surefire, gemtech, kac, etc have the money for research and to throw thousands of rounds thru one to make sure it lasts. Its hard to get one repaired except by the mfr and the big names have great customer svc.

depends on what you're going to do with it. if you're going to be doing mag dumps at full size ipscs, surefire, kac, aac and the like are the way to go. if you're doing precision shooting, either go with the thunderbeast or silencerco. my experience is based on owning around 20 suppressors. i have 4 thunderbeast 30 cal cans that i use on 6.5 and 6mm bolt guns and they are fantastic. i would like to get one of their new lighter weight cans soon. i do not own a surefire, but i have used them on a few occasions.

I really like my Thunderbeast 30P-1, POI shift is minimal and repeatable.

Thanks for all the responses. I would use these cans for mostly hunting purposes, prairie dogs, varmints, all the way up through big game hunting. While ia have AR's, the tactical thing isn't of interest to me. Accuracy of utmost concern.

Yankee Hill Machine. The Phantom QD 7.62 is handy. 3 adapters and 1 suppressor lets me shoot it on anything 30 cal and below.

And it works better than the factory brake on my Savage 110BA in 300 WM running 230s.

Their stuff is top drawer but not as pricey as most.

Accuracy being the biggest concern I would recommend a Thunderbeast. They new ultra series is out now and the accuracy is as good as the previous generation and the suppression has improved.

Length is also something to consider. While 2" doesn't seem like much it is a very noticable difference when hanging on the end of a rifle barrel. Giving up 2dbs for 2" is a good trade off for a lot of people. Tbacs Ultra7 seems to be a very good balance between length and suppression. The 9" will be a hair quieter and the 5" noticable louder.

Zak, the owner is a really nice guy and always seems to be available to answer questions. Once you get your first, be prepared for more to come!

I'll put up a comment about the SilencerCo Harvester. the harvester was SilencerCo's product developed for long range bolt action accuracy customers. It's only about $650 and on my 3 guns the PoI only dropped about a 1/2 inch but the group sized remained the same.

I would check them out. you can get 2 for the price of a high end Thunderbeast or SAS

Thunder beast 30P-1 Titanium is what I run on my .223s to 30 cal.
I went with them due to their workmanship & they are only 5 miles from me.
I was able to walk the warehouse/shop and watch them being made before buying as well.

The Thunderbeast products ARE very highly regarded. I tried to FIND one several months back with zero luck.

I ended up buying a pair of Elite Iron Bravo cans one for my .223 the other for my 6.5 and 6 x 47 Lapua. I have a few hundred rds through the .223 Bravo on a Rem 700. Accuracy is there and it's very quiet.

Just picked up the 2nd can only a few rds through it so far. But initial testing shows no degradation of accuracy.
