Suppressor Failure

Anyone ever have a suppressor fail? By fail I mean come a part... I had it happen today while testing my 300 WSM. Let me tell you the recoil is more prominent when it occurred. I found the internal part 30 yards passed the 100 yard target I was shooting at. FYI the bullet struck the target about an inch from the previous shot..

I just thought it was interesting where the internals ended up..

Was this a homemade suppressor or commercially built? was it rated for the pressure. I have seen homemade ones get launched. if it was a baffle strike then it was really bad... what type of mounting device used?

Sorry to hear Steve. Tony told me about one at a shoot Durys had. It was a 300 win mag and internals were about like you said. The give away was the shooter noted the noise and recoil was different. The factory rep was there and he blamed it on the suppressor was not tight.
I know from playing with mine the pressure is high on the big magnums. I hope things go well with this. When I had a strike with 1 of my cans the manufacturer was great to deal with.
Holler if I can help
Phil

I saw a can take off from the firing line one day at my local range. Shooter had not gotten the QD connection on correctly, and it went about 50 yds downrange. Put a good dent in the wet ground.

Never seen one fail as described in the OP, but I have seen multiple SiCo ASR mounts fail to retain suppressors. They subsequently go flying down range.

There was a guy in another forum that had one get launched into a stock tank. Had to call a local FD dive team to help recover it.

As the owner of a few ASR cans, its a little concerning lol.

I saw one fly from the end of a 338 Lapua, matter of fact I've got the video. It was not a baffle strike, just a failure. This was at a demonstration shoot, it was my understanding that this suppressor had been shot really hard in previous shoots. The Silencerco rep said no issue, lifetime warranty. Just send the parts back and it would be repaired with the same serial numbers. I've had no issues with mine.

Had one blow up Saturday! Never found the baffles or end cap. 27 nosler thru a 300 em can. Only a thousand psi more pressure. The recoil was horrendous and there scope tapped me between the eyes! The can wasn't tight

notice they say send the parts back, what if you can’t find all the parts. I think things get a little dicey then with various manufacturers

I've had it happen once. It only punched an enlarged hole in the end cap. Silencerco has a good video on how to tighten up the spring on the ASR mount. Now, I can tell by feel if it's on tight.

Most of the suppressors I have looked out have a fairly generous hoe in baffles, so things have to really go wrong to get a baffle strike.

I've launched my SiCo Hybrid twice now, fortunately both times I was shooting a 30 cal through a can made to take a 458 and it only damaged the end cap.

And as stated above, I use an ASR mount. Apparently you can spin onto the ASR and think you are threading it and not actually have it engaged. Cost me a $75 anchor brake end cap both times. Mine only went about 30 yards.

the Manufacturer was quick to respond and has sent me shipping authorization. It seems they are standing behind the product so I will not throw out the name.

But it is a direct thread on mount. No baffle strike. A weld failed. It is rated for 300 Norma Mag so I was with in the design parameters.

As far as injury. Well the gal I get my coffee from said, "It hurts to look at your face." lol.. The red plastic button to open the Butler Creek lens cover was partially ripped from the cap. The button hit me on the nose and I bled like a stuck pig. I was leaning over at the bench repeating, "it will stop, it will stop"..........After a few minutes I changed to, "It will slow down, it will slow down"....I will bleeding from the nostrils and the bridge of the nose. The rifle recoiled like a dang howitzer..
