Suppressed 22LR Pistol

I just got a SilencerCo Spectre suppressor. I was hoping that some subsonic ammo would cycle my Ruger Mark IV Pistol well. I tried CCI Standard Velocity (1070 fps on the box) and it’s really quiet but it didn’t cycle well. I have about 10 or 15 different types of 22 LR on hand, mostly match ammo and all is around 1100 fps or higher. I suspect the answer could be that I need lower pressure ammo because the suppressor causes more pressure. If anybody has experience with what works well suppressed in this pistol or other semi-auto 22LR pistols, that would be appreciated. I would like to narrow this down as quickly as I can.

If it's not cycling , lower pressure isn't normally the fix especially with a suppressor... Is the gun still new..? If so keep cleaning and shooting till it loosens up... Most any standered .22 will be sub Sonic in a shorter barrel pistol...

I have a 22/45 and M&P 22 Compact that I shoot suppressed, the CCI Quiet 22LR ammo won't cycle the action in either, but in all honesty, it doesn't seem to be a whole lot quieter than standard 22LR ammo. All other 22LR stuff cycles fine in mine though. Not positive on this but I don't think any 22 LR ammo achieves super sonic velocity from a pistol so the sonic crack should be moot.

Thanks @Rsadams , yes my 22/45 only had about 500 rounds on it. I can fix that! Great point from @Rsadams and @B23 about not hitting SS with a pistol. I’m gonna check the data on a website called ballistics by the inch but I’m sure y’all are right, gonna probably be around 750-900 fps from a 4” barrel. Thanks again.

I think it will ease up a bit with shooting and cleaning.... Suppressed guns are suppressed not exactly silent.... Once it gets broken in I wouldn't hesitate to try some subsonic loads just for fun.... You can get a .22 pretty quite.... If I hadn't started shooting skeet and just bought a Beretta over and under , a suppressor and a new .22 pistol was next on the list.... For what the shotgun cost I could have gotten two of each...lol

22/45 suppressed dead air mask.

Federal white box bulk. The 330 pack?

Wore the gun out, needs sent in to be rebuilt. But anything shot in it. Suppressed pistol will still be louder that a bolt rifle 22.

I wonder if something was wrong..? I have seen or should I say heard .22 pistols suppressed that were very quite.... Alot more than any of my bolt .22 rifles unsuppressed.... Or did I read this wrong and do you meen that a suppressed rifle will be more silent than a suppressed pistol...? If that's what you need than yes a rifle will be alot better....

Yes a suppressed rifle will be quieter than a suppressed pistol.

I have both. Pistol suppressed is always louder. A semi auto rifle still is beat out by a bolt 22 rifle suppressed.

The action opening pistol or rifle makes it louder. You will never get a pistol real quiet unless single shooting subsonics.

The suppressor just makes a pistol not kill your ears. Its not really quiet tho. My 308 suppressed with subs is way quieter than 22 pistol supressed.

My AAC Phoenix is very quiet with CCI standard velocity. You might look to Volquartsen for a weaker bolt spring.

I have a buck mark that I shoot supressed, never failed to cycle with any of my subsonic match ammo

I have a MK IV lite with spectre and it runs flawlessly with CCI SV and any other standard velocity ammo I’ve tried.
Order a Volquartsen spring kit and extractor while you are ordering.

it comes with 2-3 springs to tune it

I'm with the others about breaking in the pistol.

I have a MKIII and a Volquartsen Scorpion. Both will shoot and cycle almost any 22lr in the 1080ish range, and that is shooting suppressed. About the only time they wont cycle is when the bolt is getting dirty. A quick shot of a CLP usually gets them back on track.

The suppressor will dirty your pistol much faster than unsuppressed shooting. I have found that some guns are actually picky about what you lube them with. I have had good luck with SLP2000 brand of lube on my suppressed pistols. They run longer with that particular lube than anything else I have tried so far. I hear that Frog Lube works well when applied properly too.

Some supressor specific ammo is available, CCI, Gemtech, Federal etc... The heavier bullet (@45grains) will be harder to push out the end of the barrel, so there may be a bit more rearward pressure to aid in cycling of the bolt. This would be load/brand specific of course, but it may help in a new pistol. The suppressor ammo may fire cleaner as well, depending on the powder they use and I believe CCI has come out with a type of clean-fire suppressor round. I have not tried that ammo yet, but it's definitely worth buying a few test boxes. 22lr suppressed is very, very dirty, but probably one of the the most fun to shoot!

Best of luck!
