Superperformance powder for the .243

I am really impressed with this powder in my .243 weatherby vanguard. Shooting 62 gr Barnes varmint grenades and 50.2 grains of powder I averaged 3770fps. Shot 3 rounds touching at 100 yds. Only complaint that I have read in other posts as well is that it is a little dirty.

I have a ton of 58 grain vmax that I'm going to work on next.

I also worked some loads for my .280. 150 grain CT ballistic silvertip almost 2800 fps. (52 grains).

They finally posted some data for both the .243 and the .280 but not for these bullets so thought I would put it out there.

It appears that this bulky powder seems to have a short window of use.I would sell or trade for the 65 grain bullet's or if you try it ,be extremely cautious. If it were me I would attempt to get a more desirable powder. There has to be a reason that they dont have data for lighter bullet's.

I've run this in my 25-06 and its fast no doubt. Found it had a tendency to create pressure problems and accuracy wasn't there every time, had strange fliers. Called Hodgdon and one of the techs there said they had the same problems on the 25-06. I pointed out that they said use it in a 30-06. But their answer was its a limited use powder so use it accordingly....nuff said.

A few of the loading manuals warn of loading light bullets and using slow-burning powder, as if undercharged - has the same pressure spike as if overcharged. May be why they don't have the data for it.

Those 58 grain V-Maxes are wicked. I'd keep them and change powders. Go with a faster powder.
