Sunday cook up....

I am not a football fan, or any other professional sport really. However, it has become somewhat of a tradition for ol' Mike to be in the kitchen, cooking up something so my beautiful bride can watch all the superbowl commercials on a full belly. This year, inspired by a friend that was raised in Louisiana, I am preparing gumbo. I have already started the dish as it needs to cook for hours. I can reload while it simmers....
Anyone else do anything like this?

Oh, heck yeah! For me it's either a brisket (or 2), ribs, pork butt, a big batch of chili or a shrimp/crawdad boil.

This year, it's brisket with all of the fixings.

go with the brisket,,and we sure got the weather for it

Who the hell else, Tom Brady and someone else. Not even interested. Probably rent a movie, then eat, then I'm going to reload.

Gumbo, hour 3, pre shrimp. Forgive my cluttered house.
edit - never mind about renting a movie - John Wick is on!

Looks D liscious!!
You need some rice with that pot of goodness right there.
Just ask my wife she'll tell ya!

That will happen before we eat. I'm thinking Jasmine rice - it's woody flavor will compliment the File' powder I ordered off Amazon.

I made a big pot of Chili this morning, which is all ready to go. I don't watch or follow football, but I like Super Bowl Parties.

Damn, nothing like good chili. 'Course I put beans in mine cause that's the way we roll in NC. Venison, ground pork and beef are my meats. My wife is from Hatfield/McCoy country - lots of influences from folks going up to Ohio for work. First meal she ever made me was Chili/ no beans/ over spaghetti noodles. It was damn weird. I promised her one day I would perfect that dish and we would revisit it.
