suggestions for best repeater action

http://www.bighornarms.com/

very well machined, small firing pin, floating bolt head with a R700 action footprint.....

Just re-barreled one of my Bighorns, have 5000+rds on it, action lugs look brand new.

how's the price on the tl2? it seems to be pretty nice. I read somewhere that a floating bolt head is better then an untouched bolt but not as good as a properly machined one piece. I guess the price would be the biggest factor on where it falls between the surgeon, deviant and the Barnard.

Defiance Machine makes excellent repeaters that are popular with the tactical precision crowd....i.e. where repeaters are needed. They make the magwell 2.95" or so to handle the extended magazine lengths (R700 SA footprint). They also give you a choice of AI/HS mag cut, R700 BDL cut, or the AW mag cut. Don't think you'll find a better action for magazine feeding.

I am also a BIG fan of the defiiance deviant . Starts out stiff, but after working the bolt a few thousand times it is nice ! I wish the bolt was stainless instead of chrome molly. personalised cerial numbers are a big plus. wait times are relitively short. A true work of art. I would post pics of mine if I wasnt computer retarded

There are others, but I like the 3 B's (in no particular order):

Bighorn, Barnard, and BAT.

Not sure I would include Barnard in the "best repeater" category. People I've spoken with have had troubles with magazine feeding out of a Barnard.

I have read that about the Barnard's. I was sold on their single shot but I have enough single shot rifles. its time for a nice 6.5x47 repeater build. I'm going back and fourth between the surgeon and deviant. It may sound like a dumb way to decide but the surgeon will fit the Tactical look better then the deviant I think. the deviant is more of an art piece that wants to be put in a custom painted flashy stock where as this build will be my rugged shoot off various obsticals for practice type gun. no doubt the deviant would handle it just fine though.

Don't know about the floating bolt head vs the one piece bolt? What I do know is I've shot in some very dirty/dusty steel matches in the last two years, no problems with my Bighorn action, seen other R700 clones have problems. I like the fact that the floating bolt head is always perfectly aligned and the bolt body clearance tolerates lots of crud.

Just re-chambered my Bighorn to a 6x47, feeds like butter using AW mags. Guessing a 6.5x47 would feed just as well in AW mags.

I would go defiance and never look back I've heard just as many people complain about the surgeons I have a defiance deviant in a 6.5x47 with a guardian magwell cut that takes ai aw mags and feeds very smooth

hmm. I guess ill have to look harder. I havent found any people posting issues with the surgeons loading. If im going to do this i dont want to be just a little better then my 700 in 308.

I would guess any the above mentioned actions chambered in a 6.5x47 will do more than a little better than your R700 308. And you won't have to aim as high! What ever you get consider getting one with a AW mag cut.

what repeater actions do you guys consider to b the best?

The "best" for what? The T2K is fantastic as a repeater for XTC shooting. The Pierce is superb as a repeater in an Eliseo tube chassis. So is the Borden.

Best bang for the buck always depends on what you intend to do with it, and in this case, what external mags, if any, you intend to use.

If you're intending to build a tacticool setup, then I'm sure the lewd, rude, crude gang over at SnipersHide would have already spewed many times over this topic. 8)

I just want something durable, accurate and that chambers a round everytime I rack the bolt without finessing it. not really looking for a chassis type setup as I already have the xlr chassis. I will most likely be running AI plastic mags if I can find them. they work very nice with me 223.

Glad I ran across this thread....I am also planning a repeater and was looking at actions.....got it down to BAT, Borden and Defiance.....was heavily leaning BAT, but all 3 look good.....building a hunting gun

I owned two Surgeons and had nothing but problems with them. Own only Defiance actions now and very happy to make the switch. The guy who bought one of my Surgeons (where I fully disclosed my dissatisfaction) ended up selling it also...."never could get it to shoot well."

wow. bummer. it seems the safest and easiest way to get what I'm looking for as an end result will just be to get a sako trg 22. though not offered in the caliber I wanted it seems like an absolute tank of a rifle. Ive always liked them and i recently made the mistake of holding one. now its only a matter of time before I shell out the coin.
