Suggestions for a 3 -way butt-plate

I'm doing an FTR build and have a limited "budget".
I'm building It in a Boyd's Pro Varmint Stock.
Pillar bedded
Bartlien 1:10 30" on a trued 700

I'm curious about suggestions on installing a 3-way buttplate myself. Any friendly help will be appreciated

I have the same stock on a Savage model 10 in .308. I installed a Tubb 5-way plate on it and am very happy with the fit I can achieve in firing the rifle from various positions. Its not just a sling thing and I think there are a lot of benefits to the adjustable length of pull and butt plate height that allow you to build a more comfortable and solid position especially in prone.

Installation is not difficult but I had to trim the rear of the stock down a couple of inches to allow for the extra thickness of the adjustable butt plate. I used a miter saw to make short work of the trimming down. After that you will need to bore a hole in your stock of sufficient diameter to allow the adjustment rod of the butt plate to fit inside. The shape of my Boyds stock did not match up to the installation plate of my Tubb butt plate that allows you to grind it to fit the shape of your stock. It was close enough for my uses though and I am happy with the way it performs.

If your shooting FTR skip it. It will do nothing but add weight. I have them for my F-Open rifles and don't even use them anymore. They are kinda useless when using a rear bag.

I think they absolutely help in FTR shooting. We are trying to mimic the recoil the open folks get with their front rest. Very hard to do with a bipod that's attached to our rifles. Set up is vital to get that straight recoil that keeps you on your target. Cross fires generally come from FTR shooters as recoil throws us on to other targets (left if you're right handed and right if you're left) The 3 way butt plates add an additional adjustment to refine that consistency. The specs you list above will give you no weight issues unless the 30" inch Bartlien is a straight contour?

Toejoe12 no my Bartlein is a taper to .9"
I should be OK weight wise. I looked up all the weights of all my components and I was around 17.5#
I should be able to keep her under 18

See if you can get one of the new style that McMillan puts on their XIT stocks... aluminum, and fairly skeletonized to cut a lot of the weight that the Tubb and similar models have.

If you're on a budget consider Stock Positioning System out of NY. Good quality and grind to fit your stock DYI. They have a center post Graco style shotgun plate or two post system. For easy of install I would suggest the two post since it only requires to drip two holes with a drill bit and grind to fit to stock.
