Suggestions for 1000 yard .308 load

The following works very well in a 308, 12 twist out to 1000 yds.
185 Berger Juggernaut, VV150, Lapua ( SR or LP primers) brass.
Sort ur brass, sort bullets by bearing surface, weight powder to .01 grains, if u can sort primers by wt. everything matters at 1K .
The 308 is a very accurate cartridge and there are a host of bullet/ powder combinations that will shoot well at 1000 yds. The big issue is the amount of atmosphere between u and the target. Reading the wind n learning the drift of ur bullet is the critical skill. U can have the best ammo, most accurate rifle, and still shoot misses!

Don't forget the Palma shooters that are limited to 155gn....open sights......no $2000 front rest or $300 rear bag.....all hand held with sling....some of those Palma shooters really make the F-Open shooters look really weak. I have a lot of respect for the Palma guys....I've seen videos of them .....really impressive.
You forgot to mention the size difference of the 10 ring between sling discipline and Fclass?????:p

Sierra 2156 on top of 45 grains of Varget in Lapua cases with BR2s. Not as fast as most others, but you should be able to reuse your brass.
And yes, that's a Palma loading.

Some have suggested the
175gr Federal Gold Medal Match
Any Input on this?
Your good with this^
Stability factor of the 175mk in a 1-12tw is 1.71 with anything below 1.4 is marginal. I load a different version of the 175 FGMM. Lapua palma brass, CCI450 primers or BR4, Viht N140. I don't publish powder charges for liability reasons because I put a little more "gas pedal" behind the bullet. You would have to develope yours.

What chamber is your barrel? Do you have enough throat to stick Juggs out a bit? I used them behind a stiff load of varget but switched to the 200.20x for 1k matches due to bc jump.

I believe you wont find a better bullet than 185 juggernaut that will work in your case.

If you can get them between 2700-2800 and one ragged hole 3 shot groups I would be satisfied with that for 1k shooting. Your wind calls need to be better than most at that range.

Old Service Rifle Match Rifle Shooter form long ago.

" Friends don't let Friends Shoot 168'S at 1000".......

Fast forward ??? 175 Berger's 185 Berger's Possible I
155 Berger Palma Bullets or Sierra SM Primer Brass Varget could be Fun
Barrel is a little Short...............

You forgot the $450 dollar shooting jacket you have wear in 90 degree weather and sweating a like hooker in church. Also U.S Palma rules allow any bullet weight.

The size of the F-class scoring rings are smaller for a reason. Front n rear rests coupled with 60-80+ power scopes dictate the smaller rings.
Pretty sure its because when this all started f class shooters were shooting a lot cleans and high X counts on the standard LR face.

When F-class began years ago, the rifles were prone/ sling rifles with a scope installed. So the sling target was adequate. Look at the hardware used today. The F-class target is still too large. Technology has out paced the present target. Like u mentioned, at present matches, many cleans n Xs separate the top shooters.

Exactly, thank you. The concept of "weak" is difficult to comprehend when one discipline is shooting a 10 ring the size of a garbage can lid at a grand. I know, I shoot both disciplines.

Exactly, if u actually shoot a bunch of” Cleans” with a sling n irons at 1 K you have really accomplished something. With a Palma rifle, shooting a 150 with a good X count at 1K is quite the accomplishment. If u do that shooting a 155 gr bullet, you have great skill n I tip my cap to you!
Some will say that with a sling u are shooting at the side of the barn door while F- class is picking the lock. Give that sling n irons a try first before making that comment.

I've seen acomplishments from both Palma shooters and F-T/R shooters using same 155's @1000. It's not always the size of the projectile that separates the individuals or disciplines, it's the capabilities of the shooters themselves that complete the equasion.
