Suggest a powder charge for this combination!

NC/Br Shooter

Silver $$ Contributor
Iv got this barrel back on my 40x for my 6mm score gun. Iv already broken this barrel in and its a proven shooter. I put it on hold for awhile for such a time as now to shoot club score match. The original load was with Varget and 80g bullet.
Im out of Varget, and have a different lot of bullets.
So I'll be needing to run a seating depth test with the powder I got which is V135.
Here's the suggestion Im asking for.
What powder charge would you run a seating depth test on with 80g fb, V135, 6br 12tw.?
Im thinking 29.5.

I shot a couple of different barrel brands in 12 twist 6br a few years ago. N-135 was good, but best loads for mine came from XBR 8208 and it's REALLY hard to find right now. Well worth a try if it ever comes available though. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. WD

I'll 2nd that. 8208 is hard to beat if you can find it. It pressures out a tad bit before some other options, so might not be the fastest load you could find, but the overall performance is tops with 80's. I've used it in both a 6BR and a ton in a 6 Grendel. Not much difference...With a BR, you could start at or very near where I call max loads with the Grendel. You may or may not beat the accuracy as you work up though. I've had Grendel and BR bbls that liked the same load. Just not as hot in the larger BR case. The Grendel, IME, handles pressure just a little better than a BR. I guess due to increased bolt thrust in a BR over a Grendel due to the BR having a larger case ID. Not talking a huge difference. But I think it's why the 6 Grendel seems to give such impressive speeds up top. Not talking gas gun loads here.

Well, I just got done shooting a dang honest seating depth test with the 135. Found the best spot, it wasn't far from the old load, 5 thousandths, but Im dang sure, it can handle more powder,. This next go round, gonna load up 25 rounds and start at 30 and go up .3 til that one hole shows itself again..

Here is a 6BR with 80grn bullets and V135 powder link to an article that I saved a while back:

FWIW: I have a 12 twist 6BR that shoots 75grn V-Max bullets very well with 32.0grn of V135 powder.

30.3 g of V135 shot a .2. best group out the ladder. Not bad but not great. Will take this with me probly. 31.8 shot good aswell but had one frier in that group.

Never tried N-135 in my 10 twist 6 br with 80 gr Berger but used the 64 Column bullet with it. My sweet spot was 32.5g. With the 80 Berger I used AA-2230 with good results. My load was 30.5 grs.
