Stupid is as Stupid does !

Last night a supreme seniors moment occurred, whilst dumping some RL17 out of my Harrels measure, instead of putting the unused powder back into the RL17 bottle , I dumped around 150 grains into a freshly opened bottle of N560 as soon as I put the last pan full in the stupidity hit me.
You know those moments when the rage just suddenly manifests itself and the body starts to quiver ! The teeth start to grind and no one is safe for minimum of 24 hours.

Well guys your collective wisdom would be appreciated, I guess deep down I know I will have to trash the new bottle of N560.
I tried cutting off the top of the N560 bottle and thought perhaps I could scoop off a layer of powder, even though the respective powders look different when separate, once mixed its impossible to tell.

regards
Mike.

ouch. yes discard and start over

The thirty or so dollars for a pound of powder does not go far at the emergency room.
I have done similar, now it is only the in use powder on the bench and all others in the cabinet.

Dump the powder. Move on. Its safer that way.
Put it on your Roses they will thank you for it.

Shake it up reeeeeeeeeal good and "work up slowly"??:eek::eek: Tweezers? Sorry for your fubar. I had a good one awhile ago. In anticipation of a new gun "with a .268 neck chamber", I turned 100 new lapua 6br cases to .266. The gun came in with a .272 neck:confused: Oops! My next good one was when I was loading for that gun. After about ten not feeling right when seating, I checked everything. Turned out to be the bullets. I had grabbed a box of 6.5s! I'm told it only gets worse.

Back off 25%, add one grain of Bullseye and jam 'em .050. Set up a lead sled, ratchet strap the rifle to the sled & bench, get a long string, 20 lb. test will do, attach to trigger, get behind your vehicle or big tree and let 'er rip. If she doesn't blow, you're good to go without the duplex load. If she does let go, well you just added to the knowledge base on this site, 560 and 17 don't mix and we thank you for your contribution. Usual caveats apply, work up slowly, wear safety glasses, kevlar vest and helmet, make sure life insurance premiums are up to date and will is filed. Good Luck!

On second thought, the fertilizer idea made more sense.:D

Anyone who reloads long enough will make that mistake. I've learned not to allow any ingredients on the bench that I'm not actively working with; that has helped. But it's not a cure-all. Don't be too hard on yourself. As previously mentioned, your roses will love it.
Would I use the "shake and bake" idea? - not on your life.

Hog , I just might try your suggestions but first an 8 x 4 1/2" steel plate from the boiler shop at work might just persuade me to try the MythBusters Trigger Pull method!;)

Mike.

Every 4th of July I pour about a 1/2 pound of powder (cheap WC872) in a pile in the driveway. I throw a lit match at it and it creates a four foot tall flame that is pretty impressive. Children love it! :)

Just in time for the 4th of July! Get some toilet paper. Pour a half a teaspoon in the center of four sheets. Roll in to marble size balls. Invite wildest neighborhood kids (the ones who when riding their bikes, aren't outfitted like a GI getting ready to raid a taliban stronghold), dispense a handful to each, throw in campfire while telling stories about witch doctors, voodoo shamans and headless horsemen.
Oh crap, this is 2016 not 1956. We can't do that anymore.:( Or can we?;)

Several years ago I dumped 20-25 kernels (0.5 gr ???) of H-4350 into a pound of Varget.

I still have it and might eventually use it if need be.

If I was you I would do the driveway fire flame thing slm9s mentioned, on the 4th of July.

If I lived out in the country and had a lil land I would for sure do something fun with that pound of powder.

fwiw,
I have never done that yet... I say that like those guys who say they have never had a Negligent Discharge. I can only suggest shaking it thoroughly, putting in the smallest container or bag possible, include a fuse, and tape it with 300mph tape into a ball. Use it for something CATastrophic...;-) You'll feel better. Just dyson up the fur....(kidding;-).

Best Regards, Matt.

Seriously I am religious about one powder on the bench at a time. Make certain powder dumps, trickiers, etc, are all spotless before putting that powder back up and even thinking of getting another out. Granted we are within your 24 hour period and telling you something you already know. I know that sucks but saving the powder is not an option. I remember a Pre-War Model 70 that was in the Parts/Store Room at The Colorado School of Trades that dated to way back when. It was the result of pistol powder in a 06' case of some sort. How they got all the small piece mounted to the board was amazing. It serves as a mental reality check anytime I see a friend doing anything similar... UGLY.
